a Massachusetts rep wants to do away with the don't ask don't tell rule in the military... and allow those that were kicked out for being gay to rejoin... some military officials believe that having openly gay people could disrupt the cohesiveness or a unit! What is your opinion, without considering the fact that its discrimination, because i thought the military discriminated over smaller things like tattoos in the wrong place and flat feet! do you think people should be allowed to be openly gay in the military...?

homosexuality cannot legally keep someone out of te military... its just you can't ask someone if they are gay, you can't tell someone you are gay. and you cannot pursue your homosexual life style on base or with other military personnel! and you can't accuse someone of being gay!

I have found the the people who tend to be most supportive of homosexuals in the military tend to be those least likely to serve.

The only people's whose opinions matter here are:
1) Those people who can be considered to be likely to join the military
2) Those people in the military who are considered likely to re-enlist.

And if you are going to force heterosexuals to take showers with homosexuals - why don't you force females to shower with the males?

The fact of the matter is that if you lose two potential soldiers (or - even worse - two fully trained soldiers) for every homosexual you enlist - you have just placed political correctness above the needs of the military.

BTW - can anybody imagine the outcry if homosexuals are allowed to openly serve - and then there is a draft?

I think that gays and lesbians who are in and who want to join, should be allowed to be in the military as long as they keep their hands to themselves. It is the same as when the military was desegregated in the 50's. It is no different. But if they were allowed in, then people in the military could not use that as a sure way to get out with an honorable discharge. Oh darn.

By the way, the cohesiveness is gone from the military as a whole.

Reality Check - about 10% of the male population and 20% of the females are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. And that includes folks in the military. Would you rather have them in the closet, increasing their risk of being blackmailed by enemy spies and terrorists, or would you rather have them live their lives in the open?

At the end of the day, a gay person can shoot you in the head with a rifle just as easily as a straight person can!

I think any person willing to lay down their life for our country so one day my son still has the choice not to should be treated with most respect no matter who the take to bed at night but as a safety issue I think don't ask don't tell may be the only way right now you are always going to have some back woods bubba who believes that all gay men want to sleep with him

its time to get over gay people, and allow them to serve openly. Regs already prohibit inappropriate conduct and relationships, anyone can be prosecuted under the UCMJ for "sodomy," though its primarily used against gays. This needs to change.
