As long as you are not classified as abnormal, who cares, who knows?

I found a web site that says the normal range is 101 to 283 nanograms per milliter. I don't think very many doctors (if any) use the serotonin level to determine if somebody needs treatment for depression or anxiety. I have worked for a state mental health department since 1987 and this is the first time I ever heard of anyone actually being tested for Serotonin levels. Psychatrists treat by symptoms primarily, although they should review blood work for evidence of thyroid disorders, abnormal kidney or liver function, etc.

I remember reading somewhere else that at least some people who have depression/anxiety don't have low serotonin levels but using SSRI medication works anyway. It also claimed that people on SSRI drugs can actually increase the number of receptors in their nerves. I don't remember where I read that, but it was some kind of legitimate medical research report.

First what is normal, Once you find out the proper levels how are you going to test yourself. Leave it alone and go see your doc. if you feel down longer then 2 weeks!

I do not believe this has ever been established. It is known that if you have enough, then you are not depressed and functioning well emotionally. There are no known test that has been invented to guage an amount of seratonin.
