HIV - Retro Virus- that means it reproduce itself when it grows-
is a slowly and very aggressive, progressive Disease, where the Virus is present throughout the Body
The Disease runs in Stages.
First Stage and Symptoms are most often Flu like and resolve on their own within weeks
This Illness eventually turns chronic with little or no symptoms for 10 years, perhaps more (Stages 2 and 3)
Finally by the End of the Cycle, your Immune system breaks down, you will become completely defenseless against anything(i.e. a simple cough can turn into pneumonia).
This stage is the End stage = Aids.Symptoms vary from unusually infections and cancers to severe weight loss and dementia.
There is no known cure.Only Multi Drug cocktails- Drug therapy is for right now the only chance to delay and slow down the Disease Progression.
I hope the Information is helpful to you

Well like everyone has said HIV is the virus that eventually causes AIDS, but I've got a little extra something better. While you may be HIV positive (meaning you have detectable evidence of virus in your body), you do not necessarily have AIDS. In fact, the determining factor which differentiates people who are merely HIV (+) and those who actually have AIDS is the CD4 count (in brief a "CD4" is a specific type of disease fighting white blood cell which HIV particularly likes to attack.) People who are HIV (+) still have CD4 levels in the normal range while those with AIDS typically have 200 CD4 cells (per mL) or less. It's this somewhat arbitrary cutoff point which, generally, distinguishes between the two.

And since I couldn't remember that number off the top of my head, here's a handy link!

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that causes AIDS. A member of a group of viruses called retroviruses, HIV infects human cells and uses the energy and nutrients provided by those cells to grow and reproduce.

AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is a disease in which the body's immune system breaks down and is unable to fight off infections, known as "opportunistic infections," and other illnesses that take advantage of a weakened immune system.
