This might be something the woman is doing because of a subconscious instinct. This all relates to "evolutionary psychology". The way some of this behavior is explained is that "successful" humans (and we all, living today, are descended from "successful" humans, because the others died without passing on their genes) mate and produce children. Specifically, the human female is looking for a particular kind of mate----one who will father attractive children who will then attract mates of their own---more specifically, she is looking (even though she doesn't realize it, it's instinct) for someone who will create a "sexy son"----this future son of hers will pass on her genes better if he's sexy, attractive to other women.
So, even though the man she mates with might not care about her at all, she's not wasting her time because his looks, behavior, body, face, hair, etc., are attractive to ALL women. This is the combination that she instinctively wants, the combination that all her ancestors chose. Survival is everything, and nothing matters but that. And if her children are not attractive enough to mate, her genetics won't survive.

Most women dont plan on pregnancies like these. When they do become pregnant they dont want to have an abortion, not to punish the father, but because they dont believe abortion is the appropriate response. The "poor sap" you refer to should watch where he puts his d,ck.
