Try this. To save what you already made to have delicious bread, try leaving the bowl overnight on the counter, covered lightly with plastic wrap or a damp dishtowl. You can punch it down in the morning, let it rise again, put it in pans, let it rise again, bake it, and presto, you have have "sourdough bread"!

Could be that the water or milk was too hot when you added the yeast. Yeast is a living organism and the liquid should be luke warm; if you put it on your wrist you can't feel it. I don't think it can be hotter than 103 degrees. I'm not making a guarantee here, but you can try to fry the bread dough and make a bread like pitas. Make a roll, press it down, and brown it on a greased frying pan. You'd have to use medium heat and watch it real close.

Make sure not to use hot water with the yeast. Take some yeast, luke warm water and some sugar (yeast love eating it). Set it aside till you see small bubbles rise to the surface. Then add it to the flour mixture and mix. Then you can proof it

You may want to proof your yeast first. Put it in some luke warm water with a bit of sugar. if it starts to foam you're fine.

If your yeast is fine but your bread still doesn't rise you may want to kneed it some more or make sure the place you store it for rising is warm enough.

Sometimes the yeast is bad even though it hasnt expired. Make sure you dissolve it in warm water and allow the dough to rise before baking.

Did you make sure to put the dough in a covered bowl in a "warm" place?
