sa UP Diliman to! go pinoy. can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of each course? and also the possible careers after graduating. THank you!
I can't make up my mind on what course to choose between the two. IE doesn't require board exams but is a priority course for the DOST scholarship, contrary to CE. what to do?!?!>_<

The bigger question is do you want to serve people or a corporation? From my years of top level corporate experience, to include DOD, this you must know. This dictates your course work, software exposures, etc.. To be frank, neither may be what you expect or want. The real engineering world rarely meets real world needs. The focus is narrowed to one single area of expertise. Your needs in an engineering field will be dictated to you from your boss / corporation. Most engineers I've met were very disappointing. The best engineer I ever knew was formally uneducated in our Fortune 200 company. He was a practical, kenistetic person. Engineers usually did not understand the practical application of something I would need. Most are not practical thinkers. They will create something and usually don't know why. Sometimes they do not have a need to know and this could really frustrate you. Also...don't expect credit for your work. Scientist are the real thinkers and I always got more from them because they understood my needs and applications. They also dictate their own careers instead of promoting others less gifted. Since you really don't know your genre of engineering expectations, don't fret over the courses. You will find most are junk because math dictates engineering successes and the school it came from. Go to the best engineering school you can afford. If you have to pay for your own courses, don't start. You are not ready. If I knew more about your potential, I could really help you out. Good luck.

there is really no diferance between the two, in the long run. even in the short run there are few differances. I started in industrial enginiering, stuck with that for 3 semesters and then changed to civil. the corse work was the same, the only real differance was the politics. I had to learn alot about how the gov workes. WIth IE you will be working directly with companies, while CE is mostly with the Gov.
the thing you have to remember is that this is what you are going to be doing for the rest of you life, figure out what you are happy with, and go for it. the other thing to think about is that if you get you CE degree you can always do IE, getting your IE and then trying to go CE can be harder, and you will have alot of hoops to jump through.
