I'm joining to serve but the army seems to have better benefits for after you are out of the service. i.e up to 72,000 dollars with the GI bill and army college fund combined or 60,00 college loan repayment if you already have loans out when you join! The air force has no college fund and only 10,000 in loan repayment... but everyone says the air force has the best quality of life and the most techinical jobs, my ASVAB scores were great now i'm trying to see the pros and cons of both services besides thr Army being more likely to spend years in Iraq!

You seem to have the detail you need to make a decision. Yes the Army will more than likely send you to Iraq. Even the Air Force is Rotating in and out. The Air Force does have a better way of life. If you feel sure that you will definitely use the college benefit, then the Army is the way to go. If you are not sure then the Air Force is the better of the two.

You have to ask your self what do I want to be when I grow up those big Gi bill dollars typically are for Army infantry who enlist for 6 years. The AF has allot of education programs like Community Collage of the Air Force. this is a degree program that converts your training to collage credits. You can actually get a degree from the AF. I don't think the army offers this.

Dear ms.jackso....

Look in the mirror and ask yourself what is the goal? is it to continue with advanced education, if so, go for the bigger and better benefits. If it is technical you are in search of then the Air Force may be a good match. If your choice is Army then "Yes" be all you can be and of course there is a good chance that you will be assigned to a combat zone. If so; you stand a chance to be in the mix of things but nothing will prepare you best in becoming a responsible individual and one with character. These are attrubutes you are not likely to learn in school.

Best Wishes,

Well, the army is giving you estimates for the MAX you could get, hardly anyone ever gets the max, you would have to see your contract before you know exactly what you would be getting. It really depends on what kinds of jobs you get, but in the air force you are much less likely to end up sleeping in ditches eating dirt with all your meals.

DO you want to stay away from danger? Join the Air Farce They have 4 month rotations. The ones I saw had laser sights and up to date armor. But they didn't seem to get out of the safety of the American controlled area. ( I am biased its obvious) I actually wish I had an armored vehicle. Enough of my whining

Do you want to deploy for one year and/or pull lots of details (details are jobs that nobody wants to do, like clean toilets and pick up every body's Else's trash, AND possibly get into danger? Go Army!!

It's not really all that bad, most of the time. Enjoy my satire. the Army builds character err characters ;)
