Homeschoolers, have you read about the homeschool family in Germany, where families are facing jail, and children are being taken away from their parents just because they want to homeschool? (See the story at http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54425)

When you see something like this, do you get involved? Do you send letters or e-mails to try to help? Have your homeschool friends or anyone you know gotten involved in trying to help this family? Do you have any ideas on how to mobilize people, especially US homeschoolers, into helping?

Germany made this law back in Hitler's regime. I think they need to change it. Also, maybe if the school had offered an alternative for the girl, she wouldn't have needed a private tutor. I personally love homeschooling, and given the proven benefits, don't know why they would keep a law such as this, that was designed by possibly the most infamous person known to mankind to brainwash young ones. I don't know if there is any way we really can help right now other than to pray for them.

"Mobilize"? Sounds like some sort of military operation!

When I see something like this, I think it's a shame that a government has laws against homeschooling, but I do not get involved. Each country is free to have their own laws. Homeschooling is not human right that has been infringed upon. It is an option in some countries and not in others.

In Germany, there's no secret that it's illegal. The parents took their chances. Hopefully the Germans will be vocal enough to make changes. But it's really not the place of a bunch of foreign homeschooling parents to try to change German law. It's just none of our business. If you believe in freedom, then you have to allow Germany to have the freedom to choose a law against homeschooling. Would you honestly want a bunch of Germans to try to influence US government on policies? What would you think about German teachers getting together to try to convince the US government of the dangers of homeschooling? Think about being on the other side of things.

I will not help a family break its nations laws. What should be done is that a push should be made by Germans to change their nation's laws. If they don't want to do it and this family wants to homeschool their children more than obey their nation's laws - then they should move like other Germans who want to home school do - like move to Austria (as the article mentions).

Germany is not the United States and be glad that it is not.

Good Luck!!!

As they disapprove of HS on a state level I doubt that the opinions of home schoolers or non-Germans would hold much sway.
Yes, it's awful, but perhaps it will spark debate within Germany that will bring pressure to bear to change the law there.

I understand you are used to America sticking their collective noses into everyone Else's business. But that is mostly done by politicians who are looking to get a feather in their Bonnet. Actually we have plenty of issues right here to deal with.
