In our house, the dogs share the bed with the people, lol. Seriously, my sister shares her bed with her rottie at her place, my parents share their room with a lab and a german shepherd (the other german has the living room and the cattle dog and rottie mix share the heated shop). And my husband and I share our bed with 2 lab mixes. You're not the only one! lol.
Greekman, letting your dog sleep on the bed doesn't cause it to have behavioral problems. All of our dogs are incredibly well-behaved; the majority are Canine Good Citizens, and the others are too young to be tested yet. No dog is perfect, but just because they sleep on the bed doesn't make them any worse than ones that sleep on the floor or in a crate. And yes, I believe in crate training for pups; I have crates for each of my dogs (both CGCs), and they alternate between the bed, the floor, and the crate. It's really up to the owner if they want to share their bed or not. Either way, it doesn't make the dog any worse behavioral-wise.
To answer your last question, these are the dogs we have: 2 pure German Shepherds, 1 pure Lab and 2 lab mixes, Rottweilers, and a cattledog mix. None of them regressed in their training because of sleeping on our beds. The majority are/were 4-H dogs who excelled in obedience and agility. We've also raised Leader Dogs for the Blind, and all of them slept on the bed at least once during the year we had them, although they're the ones we did the most crate training with. Of the 8, one was pulled for the breeding program, one is waiting to be placed with a person, one we are still raising, and the last 5 are working all over the world.
Personally, I think that letting dogs sleep on the bed is fine. However, treating them like minature people (dressing them in clothes, letting them beg/eat in the kitchen, doing manicures on them) is what makes them more disobedient.

I took my two dogs for professional training (they spent 1 month there day and night) when they were younger. When I went to pick them up from this rigid training (this is a woman who has trained many GSD's) one of the first things she told me is to NOT let the dogs sleep in the bed with me. Just as the Greekman said, when your dogs are in bed with you, in their minds they are on your level. They are co-alpha's, if you will, in their minds. They DO tend to misbehave and they do tend to ignore your commands. So if you are trying to train your dog, buy them a doggie bed and keep them sleeping on the floor. Then, if you have your dog well trained and I mean well trained, you can consider letting them in bed with you but only if they really know that you are the alpha!!

My beagle sleeps in the bed under the covers and we love her there. When shes not there I cant sleep now. Hes family. What can I say we just adore her..I am sure your dog adores you as much as you do her/him. So enjoy.

Absolutely not..she / he loves you...My dog, a female named Rain....stays with me in the liv. room and when I go to bed....she is down there within a few minutes (when the lights go out in the rest of the house). She/he is being protective and loving and wants to be around/with you..Nothing wrong with that...the only problem I have..is I have a white bedspread...and use another coverlet that is easily washed...because Rain is black and leaves a lot of hair...so I have to wash it often..but the love and companionship that she seems to want to give is worth that little problem.

No, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
My yorkie used to sleep on my bed. Such a cuddle bug. Yorkies don't shed either so there wasn't any extra fur around.
I didn't have any behavioral problems with him either. He was very well behaved.

mine has slept with us since the day she came home at 6 weeks of age, and no it didn't cause any houetraining problems. My only problem is the amount she snores (she's a bulldog). She loves it, but I'm starting to lose sleep.

Abosultely not! It's great a idea! My yorkie, Roscoe sleeps with me almost every night. The only time he doesn't is when he decides not to. He does just fine, even with the cat.
I think it just makes you closer!
