Of all the countries in Asia only Japan has any real possibility of becoming "superpower" and they are not likely to attempt to become one because of their history.

Neither China or India has any possiblity of reaching such a status in the foreseeable future

Despite their possession of small nuclear arsenals both are military midgets compared to the United States and neither possesses the ability to project their power much more than a few miles beyond their own borders.

More importantly, both nations are vastly over populated and the overwhelming majority of their citizens live in abject poverty without clean water or adequate sanitation.

Their huge populations mean that even their tiny (in percentage terms) middle classes look large in raw numbers but nothing in their current policy or practice can change the fact that 80+% of their people live in conditions that are worse than anything that can be found in the Western world.

The most desperately poor people in the United States have bigger homes, more amenities and better living conditions that the average citizen of India or China. There are, for example, almsot no Americans, no matter how poor, who do not possess modern plumbing and sanitary water.

On the other hand, in India, for example, more than half the population routinely drinks water contaminated with human feces.

No nation whose people are so ill served by their government can ever be considered a superpower.
