my mom bought a car recently and is going to let me drive it to school/work and to see my bf a half hour away. the car won't be mine right away, i am slowly paying for it if i do decide i want it when i graduate. so im not getting it for free or anything. i'll be paying for it, and working hard for it.

anyways, im almost 17 and haven't gotten my license yet. i didn't have a car to drive before so it wasn't a big deal to me really. now i will have one to drive, and i want one really badly. but im extremly scared about taking my test because i've lost a lot of teenage friends in accidents in which they were careless and i don't want that to happen to me.

anyways, im asking for help on the test. i don't do good on tests and get nervous easily and so i was wondering if anyone can give me pointers and some ideas on what to expect and what i will have to do when i take it. i would also like to know how i know im ready to take it and how to get over all this anxiety.

thanks!!!

The "First Time Drivers" section on DMV.ORG is very helpful. Just choose your state and information relating to how to get your license will show. For some states, it will also offer tips on how to prepare for the driving test. But if you have not yet taken the written exam, you will find it useful that there are practices written exams for every state to prepare yourself for the actual test.

First of all in order to get rid of the anxiety, you have to stop worrying, take a deep breath, and relax. The test is not as hard as your making it out to be. Actually it's basic common sense, practice driving your moms car, so that you can get a better idea of how driving is done, because all of the questions are based on things you must do when you're driving, like yeilding at a green light when there is no turning signal to wait until its clear to drive, you'll understand more of what i'm saying once you start driving. You just need to get a better feel of it. If that doesn't help you can alway pay for driving lessons, that'll help also. And now you can take the written part of the test online, so you can read the book, while taking the test. just stop by your local dmv and pick one up. And lastly, always drive at a speed where you can always have control of the car, when it's raining drive caustiously, because the roads are slippery, if it gets to bad just pull over into a gas station parking lot until it stops. When you drive you have to look out for yourself, now a days a lot of people are taking the test online, and really don't know how to drive, so pay attention to the car in fornt of you, and not on the green light ahead, don't stop on brakes suddenly because the car behind you might slam into your rear end, don't block an intersection, don't drive under the speed limit, don't pay attention to your lipstick, radio, cell phone, or other people in the car just focus on the road, and you should be fine. A lot of accidents do happen because of careless driving, so if you are a cautious driver, you will be just fine.
Good Luck

First things first. Do not drive the car by yourself. If you are caught or God forbid, involved in an accident it will take a looooong time to get your license. Go to the state DMV and apply for a learner's permit; study the state manual and you should have no problem with the written exam.

Then practice, practice and when you're all done practicing, then practice some more with a licensed driver in the car until you are comfortable behind the wheel. Then take the road test and you should be able to pass it with no difficulty.

Enjoy your new-found freedom and drive sensibly so you will not end up like your friends - either dead, crippled, in debt for the rest of their lives or full of remorse for hurting or killing someone else.

But most importantly, do not drive by yourself - it's not worth it!!!!

Yea im 16 and just passed mine lol but heres what I did:
Read the book VERY carefully cuz the stupidest questions are o the test, like the ones u just skip over because its "not needed info" IT IS! thats how they get you >.< after that i dont know if you have your drivers permit but it helped me to drive and do what the book says like say it says to park X amount of feet from a fire hydrant..do it physically. i would tell you but i dont know what state your in lol and i dont want to confuse you. But also when your reading the book TAKE NOTES seriously then go over them get them planted in your head very well cuz amazingly you will know the answers when presented with a question hah. when your 1st driving DO NOT listen to the raido until you actually know well what the heck your doing cuz my sister got 100% on the written and driven test yet left the place turned on the radio and soon found herself hit by a truck so seriosly dont listne to the radio in the bbeginning you will find yourself lost in your song and will forget to turn on your blinker or something small and end up in a situation you dont want to find yourself in lol but no matter what you do BE SAFE! and i suggest wear your seatbelt cuz hah i dunno bout you but i rather not pay a 100 dollar fine and up because i didnt put on my seat belt that took 2.1 seconds to put on lol besides ur safer that way so have fun,be careful and HAPPY DRIVING ^_^

I haven't taken it yet, but my friend did and she said that it's pretty easy and just not to freak out (the driving part) as for the paper test, you should study your handbook from front to back even though most questions are just common sense(not saying you shouldn't study). But I wouldn't be too worried, considering most of the people driving these days suck at it. Well, in Los Angeles at least. =]

It's easy, You'll be fine...Just keep your eyes on the road, do as your instructor says, keep looking at your mirrors...be real alert...Be calm ...Do the speed limit, stuff like that! Study for the question part of the test that can be tricky! I got mine in november and It was easier than I though, good luck
