Your question is really though-provoking, and from the secular point of view. There are, of course, many ufologists, some of whom believe that they have had contact or been abducted and then returned, possibly altered or implanted with some sort of device by which the aliens can then communicate with them or control them; however, the vast majority of us have experienced no concrete evidence of the aliens. So, suppose in reality, visible to all, we should be invaded by a fleet of space vehicles from elsewhere in the universe; the very fact of the extraterrestrials' ability to arrive here would be indicative of their unfathomable intelligence and of their evolution having so vastly exceeded ours, including their having overcome the laws of physics as we comprehend them, that they could conquer the entire world without even a minimum of resistence from the current super powers. So, suppose instead of an armada, a single ship should land with its occupants making themselves known to all finally, presumably coming in peace. We would still be overwhelmed by their vast superiority to even our greatest minds, not to mention that we would be immensely intimidated by them. I think that we would all, regardless of religious beliefs or lack thereof, be totally stunned by the turn of events; the reality that the earth would be proven vulnerable to a race of aliens from a distant star system is a concept which we can not truly imagine -- we citizens of Earth consider ourselves to be in charge here, in control of our own destinies (somewhat), and the entirety of what we believe arrogantly about our positions as the masters of our domain would be annihilated in the face of an alien invasion...

Atheists would probably freak out the least, since many believe that the existence of aliens is MUCH more realistic than the existence of a God. Also, Christians tend to believe that the human race is the only intelligent species out there (hence the separation of animals and man in Genesis), and if this wasn't true, then the whole idea of souls could get blown completely out of the water.
But I'd be interested in the aliens themselves, personally. For example: would they have religious beliefs of their own? How would these beliefs hold up in comparison to the religions found on Earth?

Probably atheists. We don't have to worry about fitting extraterriestrial life into some premade notions of God's creation, whereas Christians will be mighty upset to realize that the universe does not, in fact, revolve around humans. Those aliens will probably have their own gods and religions, which Christians will instantly label as "evil." They will then try to kill the aliens for not accepting Jesus into their hearts (or livers or kidneys or whatever body part the aliens prefer).

Atheists the least because of their interest in science and fundie Christians the most because they'd think the aliens are demons or fallen angels.

Yeah, right, atheists wouldn't be afraid. Cause you are all scientists, yeah right. You guys think you're all that. Talk about thinking you're a higher being. Nay, I wouldn't be afraid of aliens, like those poor little Christians. Horsefeathers!

The least? Atheists, obviously. We have no religious scriptures declaring ourselves to be the highest beings in the universe. Atheists do not say that our planet is created especially for life.

I imagine Atheists would freak out less; the Christian belief system doesn't really allow for any other races that aren't humanoid.

I wouldn't freak out at all. I have been donating computer time to SETI since 1997. I hope they do find a repeatable signal at some point. Lots of one time hits, but never two.

If aliens existed we would not be engaged in wars with each other. if is a silly little kid game when there is no real reasoning to question some one on.
