It does work, I was on South Beach, very similar and lost 15 pounds on it and gained 25 pounds when I stopped eating like that.
Right now I am doing Weight Watchers and love it. I am down 12 pounds in 6 weeks.
To lose weight and keep weight off, you want to lose about 2-3 pounds per week. You can not sustain weight loss if you loss it so quickly (like in Atkins & South Beach).
Good Luck!

Amongst my friends, Atkins works -- but I don't know anybody who could stick with it for more than three months, and the weight came back. I think it would be a good program to follow for 10 weeks -- then have a healthy eating plan ready that offers a balanced variety of foods. Depends on how much weight you need to lose. We were all big women, and each lost about 30 pounds.
I often think I'd like to go back on Atkins, but my whole body rejects the idea. It says, "once was enough!" So, think carefully before you go on it, and make sure you have a contigency plan in place because the minute you start cheating, that the minute you need to start a new, different diet.

It does work in a unheathly way, you couldn't have nuts or two cups of dairy on the Atkins diet, but you CAN have it on the South Beach Diet! And it has only 3 PHASES and Atkins has 4 PHASES and is harder to follow the four phases than 3 phases. You could lose between 5 to 10 lbs in Phase I on South Beach Diet in a healthier way.
SBD is even better and is easily follow it through. And the foods are much healthier and it is way of eating and living a good life!
Good luck!

It's less of a "diet" and more of a lifestyle/eating change. I've lost about 15 pounds in 8 weeks by adopting an Atkins-type diet.
Replacing simple carbs (sugar, white bread, pasta, white rice) with complex carbs, and eating a good balance of protein, healthy fats, vegetables, nuts, etc. is always going to be healthier.
It's funny how few people don't understand the concept. It's not about eating mass quantities of fat, meat and cheese!
I'm far from dead- in fact, I have more energy, I eat a many more vegetables than I ever have, my meats are lean and healthy, and I have no desire for sugar, junk or unhealthy foods.
This isn't something I need to "stick with" - it's a lifestyle. I don't eat white bread, I eat whole grains. I don't eat junk food or sugar, I eat some fruit or nuts. I have no problem skipping milk (which I hate) but instead enjoy cottage cheese and a small amount of cream.
The science of this: The higher the intake of simple carbohydrates, the higher the blood sugar level in our bodies. This in turn triggers the release of more insulin from the pancreas in an attempt to normalize the blood sugar.

The simple answer is yes it does, but it can be dangerous and will probably leave you very tired. if losing some pounds of any description and inches is what you want then I would suggest you use a diet that is all natural and is rich in protein and vitamins. This allows your body to get all the things it needs to function correctly and so you don’t feel hungry or tired. By doing this instead of going on one of these current craze diets you will be successful. I used a protein based diet with Herbalife after a friend who had lost weight recommended it to me. All the way through you feel great and energized, you also get great coaching and support along the way. The people are very friendly and gave me lots of great advice. I needed to lose 40 pounds and I did so fairly easily. There is no pressure and they will even send you a load of free samples so you can try before you buy. The samples were the thing that initially convinced me that this was the right path to choose, I could tell the difference right away. The products really work and you feel great whilst losing weight. They are fun to work with as well as being serious about helping you lose weight.
I lost all my weight in less than four months and they have helped me to keep it off. I would definitely recommend using them, the tips you get and encouragement are excellent (their advice and time is FREE). I am still with them so I stay healthy. The owners will advise you on what to purchase depending on what you want to lose, my sister did this also and lost 76 pounds in less than five months. The website is www.myhealthabc.com, if you want to lose the healthy way and quickly then this is for you. You just leave your details and they call you up, I would suggest that if you aren’t sure or don’t want someone to ring you then go to their main site www.myhealthabcmall.com and you can see all the products and packages. This is what I did before I went to the first site and left my details so they could contact me. You can see with all the products and detail they have that they mean business. Its nice to have contact with real people who care about you losing weight and improving your health instead of someone just trying to sell you something. I am confident now that I will continue to keep the weight off with the help I have received. I think so long as you are serious about losing weight then these guys will genuinely get you there.

Yes it works, not sure what the other person meant by you lose weight but not fat..dosn't make any sense...the only other thing you would lose is muscle and since the diet is high in protein it helps to spare muscle tissue..there are many ways to lose bodyfat..I do recommend a lower carb diet they are very effective..also the carbs you eat should be low glycemic..You may want to go along the south beach route. Adkins is very low in carbs and in my experience it is harder for women to follow than men sice men tend to be more meat eaters..dosn't mean all women do bad on it...I know some who did very well..but no diet is good if you can't stck to it or are miserable..you also have to realize that you must make permanent changes in your food intake (lifestyle changes) you can't go on a diet, lose weight then go back to eating the way you did when you were heavier..I recommend you start doing some basic research on nutrition...how the varoius macro nutrients work etc....

as the atkins diet is mainly consist of protein. An excessive amount of protein would turn to stored fat, this diet is only good for people who have a high metabolism.
If an older person tried this diet, when they drop kilos, they would have a lot of protein in their system, as their metabolism is slower, they would be more likely prone to liver problem.

that depends-
do u want to be healthy and lose weight or just lose weight
if u want to lose weight yes,
but the atkins diet screws up ur metabolism so u don't lose fat but u do lose weight. I would not recommend it for any person that wishes to be not dead.
