Any carb like bread is going to go straight to your butt, hips, stomache, etc, if you don't work it off. So you shouldn't eat bread before bed if your watching your weight.

Bread baking smells soooo good, but yes, it'll make your butt and everything else big if you eat too much!!

Regular or white bread is a basic, simple carbohydrate that doesn't do much for you. Wasted calories.
If you eat more wheat bread with whole GRAINS it's healthier and gives you more fiber, but still lots of carbs.

Check the labels for 'whole unbleached flour'; this is good.
Many breads say 'wheat' but are really not whole grains. Even some that say 'whole grain' are not. Read the first few ingredients on the label.

If you eat small amounts of bread and eat a balanced diet [which most of us don't do] then you'll be ok.
If you eat bread at every meal, and worse is with butter, you'll gain fat. Not muscle, but fat.

Try to eat more protein, drink water before your meals to fill up a bit, and limit the yummy bread.

If in doubt of what you're taking in, count your calories you eat each day. Check the Food Pyriamid (loosely) to see how much you should have of each type of food. [look online to see one]
Or keep a simple food diary for a week, and you might learn a lot ,you might not realize.

The key, you can have most anything in moderation.

Probably but it can also make your belly big becuase bread just stays in your stomach it doesn't digest, especially white bread.
