Invitations are to send before - inviting persons to attend the wedding. A traditional wedding invitation shouldn't (needn't) imply that you will pay. It can just say the traditional stuff and the location will be at the resort in Jamaica, with time, etc. If anyone wants to attend they will surely contact you to get information???
Announcements are to tell people that you are married already.
You could send invitations to close family and friends who you want to give the opportunity to attend the weddding.
After you return from Jamaica you can send announcements to everyone - including those to whom you sent invitations. You could include a "party" celebration with the announcement so that everyone could celebrate your wedding?
Congratulations and best wishes.

You send invitations if you want people to join you and witness the ceremony. If this is a destination wedding and not a true elopement, you'd send out invitations. Even if it is to just a very very few people (parents, immediate family, a MOH or BM). Only those people would be willing to travel to Jamaica.
You send announcements AFTER to let people know you are now married. They are worded a lot like an invitation, but say "so & so announce the marriage of". Like a baby announcement.

you do not send invitations to an elopement. if you elope that's that. If you want to have a wedding then you send invitations. You are not responsible for paying for your guests to come and stay in Jamaica but it would be nice to give them enough time to save up the fare should they wish to attend.

the other answerers are right "elope" means you run and off do the thing with just you and your man...
but to answer your question: depending on when you and your fiance are leaving, it would be wise to do a simple black and white photo announcement...with you a little dressed up and announce your plans and end it with a statement " any family members/friends wishing to share in this happy moment can contact us for hotel rates and information" or something to that effect. that way if a certain amount of people go...you could at least find out about group rates for the flights and hotels. just don't do it to late..the rates can rise
My cousin and her husband got married in the Bahamas..it was beautiful and simple and they did that...
so hopefully that gave you and idea...best wishes to you :)

It sounds like you are having a destination wedding, not an elopement. If you aren't just running off to get married, send out invites. If you are just planning on running off (with maybe a best man and maid of honor) send out announcements on post cards from Jamaica.
Also, you may want to consider having a reception when you get back (nothing fancy, just a big party to celebrate)

When you are getting married and it is in a different country it isnt up to the bride and groom to pay for there guests to come its up to the people to tell you they will be attending your wedding in Jamaica and you tell them the resort and they pay themselves for the trip .Send out invitations and who ever can come will be there. Anyhow elpoing is when you just get married and than tell people afterwards. Hope this helps.lol

Go to http://www.love.allabouthoneymoons.com they can plan any type of trip not just honeymoons and destination weddings. If you tell them what you like and your budget they will plan the perfect trip for you.Best of all if you use there service to book your trip there service is free b/c the fee is paid by the hotel or resort. Most of the time if you book 5-10 or more rooms the resort will give you a great deal.

no you would not send invitations if you are really eloping. To elope, most literally, merely means to run away. More specifically, elopement is often used to refer to a marriage conducted in sudden and secretive fashion, usually involving hurried flight away from one's place of residence.
if you want people to know, tell them. if you dont. dont. the cost will be on them regardless
