3 men share a motel room at $30 a night. they each pay $10. they complain that the room was not clean. the manager then gives the bellhop $5 to give the men. the bell hop takes $2 and gives each man $1 instead of splitting $5 between 3. so the men would of each paid $9 because they got the $ back. 9+9+9 is 27 and the bellhop got $2 so that is 29. where did the other dollar go

The dollar is not missing. It is just the way the question is worded that led to this misconception. It is ridiculous to assume that the women paid nine dollars instead of ten. It is a mathematical error. 2+1+1+1=5. Subtract that from thirty and you get twenty-five, which is the discount given to the three men.

It is in your pocket - thief! thief! call the police.

Ha Ha you are counting the 2 dollars the bellhop has twice.

9+9+9 = 27 that is the 25 the manager has and the two the bell hop has then you go and add the two from the bell hop again 27+2=29. You should add the 3 that was given back to the guys 27+3=30.

It has nothing to do with the extra two from the fiver, they each spend ten, and they each get one back 9+9+9+1+1+1=30 Sounds like the manager wanted to throw you off.
