Today, the moral values defended by the Church are being criticised and the people who defend them labeled as old-fashioned, retrograd, or being against progress.
Would people dare to launch these attacks if the consequences were the same as in the 16th century? If you think so, then why does nobody openly criticise the Muslims who have much more narrow-minded and radical views?

Let me specify two things:
First, I do not believe every Muslim to be narrow minded, that is ridiculous and just not true. I do not support any radical religious view and would like to remind the answerers that the Church apologized for its past mistakes
Secondly, many of you have said that Muslims are already being criticised. Where? In which books? Which laws make fun of their beliefs? I have seen the world apologise to the Islamic community for a drawing of Muhammad. You say they are being criticised as much as us, I say please cite your sources...

Actually, the moral values espoused by Christianity are identical to the moral values of Islam. There is no point in criticizing the narrow minded people - they won't listen anyway. Give your constructive criticism to the people who will listen, the open-minded folks. Better still, gather together a group of open-minded folks of all belief systems, and start a dialog.
Anyway, people do criticize Muslims, for all that is wrong that isn't related to Islam too, not just for what they perceive to be flaws in the religion. I take criticism for things so diverse you would be amazed - I promise I've never murdered anybody, and I'm not a tyrant dictator of any oil-producing country!!!

Some people just criticize anything.
I have never been to a worship service in my life, and I have been blessed knowing a few people of different faiths, and saw that political issues are NOT discussed.
I have never been part of any group, nor seen anything untowards where anything but Peace and Light Faith
has been preached. There is no dark side that confounds, except of course:
"For the Mystery of Iniquity doth already work...and then shall the wicked be revealed, only he that now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.
Even him, whose coming is after the workings of Satan with all power and sign and lying wonders," -2 Thessalonians 2:7-9.

think of what your saying from a muslim persons point of view.
they arent being narrow minded. that is the religion they chose to belive in. they had the choice. and they have the choice to leave the religion. and i do not think that muslim people are violent. the violent muslims you speak of are a very small population of the entrie group.
and to answer your question, no if it was in the 16th century, people would be too afriad to speak out. people began speaking out as individuals on a large scale basis in the 1960's and 1970's. and yes people would be too afraid of the consequences to launch open attacks on the church. and to me the christian church is old fashioned

I do not trust Televangelists. They are christian. It just happens that the militant muslims are living in an area where Electricity is a valued commodity. Some of them over in the middle east still believe that a woman can be beaten for showing her face or driving a car. Until ignorance is quelled with education, fundamentalist thinking will rule that region.

easily, the Jewish theory (looking on sect and time) is that "Lucifer" or devil is an angel that teaches human beings with the aid of trials. In Jewish custom, devil isn't a fallen angel (that seems to be a in basic terms Christian concept that the Muslims copied), he's in simple terms an angel that visits trials and temptations on human beings to coach and enlighten them. once you examine activity in this easy, it makes plenty extra sense. Edit: observe,: this is particularly stupid to declare that God is all understanding and then turn around and declare that God created an angel that could create evil and insurrection. this is much extra unthinkable that an all understanding god could create a inhabitants of angels which might have a million/3 insurrection - fantastically because of the fact the version between angels and human beings is that angels don't have loose will. of path, if angels had loose will, why could human beings be mandatory?

Some of the things Christians have said to me (an athiest of Jewish birth) have been very fierce, and in a sense, violent. While most Christians, and indeed most Muslims, are good people, a select few are not.

I would. And I am very willing to criticize the Muslims too. There just ain't as many of them here. But I am sure if you look at my answers I say more damning things about them than you. It is just that it is easier to find Christians here.

You really need to research some stuff...Islam is openly criticized all the time and Christianity has had times of violence, even stupid ones in which man changed rules of the church in order to obtain divorces in which he then beheaded his wives. Open a book. Read...Knowledge is POWER.

is not about the religion itself, if you dare to broaden your knowledge and change your points of view you should read the coran, it is a beautiful book. and it is just as methaphoric as the bible,, and it is not about the books it is about extremism,, extremism is bad under any religion. . one thing is believing in god and christ and another is teh church. the church is a rotten institution, based in rotten beliefs, excluding women as well, and promoting deranged sexual behaviours amongst the priest for that horrible belief in celibacy

I hate to say it, but I think what passes as "Christian" has killed many more people than the Muslims. Just look at Bush's record. I don't consider any of them believers, but the name of The creator is blasphemed among the heathen because of those who pretend to follow the Messiah, but are actually following Satan!
