What are you making?
You can substitute white sugar for brown, and just use the same amount as you'd use for the brown.
The end result may taste slightly more sweeter, depending on what you're making.
You can subsititue maple syrup, but using 3/4 cup sugar for every 1 cup sugar.
You HAVE to decrease the amount of all liquid ingredients by 3 tbs for every 1 cup of syrup you use, though.
Or it'll come out really sticky and nasty.

There really isn't a substitute for brown sugar because of its flavor and depth. Go ahead and use the granulated white sugar and add some molasses if you have it, or you can try to carmelize it by heating it in a skillet until it becomes golden....won't be the same though.

There is no exact substitute for brown sugar that I know of- But I think a little syrup and white sugar would come close.

You can use regular granulated sugar
I use it all the time in my brownies and it comes out delicious
I would add a teaspoon of vanilla to add some extra depth of flavor
Don't add any syrups it will throw off you ingredient proportions
