This is completely normal...but a pain to put up with! Most kids are exhausted after a day of school. I always advise the parents of my 1st grade students to have some independent down time after school. Like most adults after work, kids need to unwind, too. After lunch time (which is a time that they get the most tired and unfocused), I have the kids calm down by having story time or giving them independent quiet book time for abut 20 minutes to a 1/2 hour. You could try doing something similar to this. Or, some another ideas would be quiet drawing time, playing with blocks, Lego's, or painting. You could even play calm music (my 1st grade students will react to the type of music being played). Keeping him preoccupied but in a calm environment and state of mind could really help with his behavior.

Do they take naps at pre-K, and if so is it long enough. My oldest son was taking about 1 hour naps each day, so he was okay, but my second was still sleeping 2-2and a half hours every day. So the nap time he got wasn't enough. Also since he wasn't home and there were 20 other kids, he often didn't fall asleep for 20-30 minutes therefore only getting 30 minutes of nap time if he fell asleep at all. You may need to let him rest as soon as he gets home. Make sure he goes to bed really early and gets lots of sleep the night before. My kids are in kindergaten and 1st and they are in bed at 7:30 PM and they get lots of sleep. Good luck

Try a better breakfest something with more protein and make sure his snacks and lunches are very healthy. Sounds like he is extremely tired and cranky after a day of running around and doesn't have the energy to make it thru the day.
They make pedisure for kids ..taste like chocolate milk..has all the nutrients they need.
You can also see about a daily vitamin as well. And then I would put him to bed an hour early.
When we went thru this..our teacher actually suggest that our child get 10 hours of sleep a night which really helps.

Give him time to adjust. In the meantime, you may want to cut back on refined sugar and maybe get him to bed a little earlier. My child went through this for a few weeks after starting Kindergarten - it was a tough adjustment and he was plain worn out.
**If it continues on for a long time, start asking some gentle questions to see if maybe it isn't the right place for him. You also might want to consult the pediatrician for suggestions as to what might be going on.

My daughter needed a nap after school from pre-k til 2nd grade
Sounds like he needs to unwind in a quiet place and eat a good meal
If you make it a routine where he comes home and eats a snack then naps it should help

Give him a rest time, if not a nap. Put him in his room, allow him to read books or play but he must stay in his room for one hour. He undoubtedly needs some down time after the stimulation of school all morning.

I went to AM Kindergarden and my mom had me take a nap when I got home. Kids that do not get enough sleep can be cranky, and lack of sleep can also mimic ADD...lack of concentration.
