Most aren't front line troops. There are more in logistics than front line.

There are only so many people in each MOS, like Intelligence guys don't have to go over there that much, A lot of Air Force don't deploy because they are part of fixed wing aircraft and there isn't much need for those over there. Its all about the needs of the military and that is why they are trying to get more infantry because those are the guys that they need the most of, the most deadly too. Oh and don't forget all the Navy guys, I know of like 10 navy guys that are deployed in iraq, the rest are on ships which really can't do anything on a earth bound country.

Because 75% of the military are paper pushing desk jockeys. Less than 10% of the Air Force and Navy are deployed in support of Iraq which leaves the Army and Marine Corps to carry the load and only a third of the Army and Marine Corps are actual Combat Arms the rest are paper pushers and bean counters.

Because the standing army includes support personnel and personnel required to man bases. You don't just empty a base and leave it abandoned when you ship troops to a conflict.

Also, you don't want to deploy all your troops all at once. Considering how long we've been in Iraq and how long we probably will be, being in action for too long will mean your troops suffer. These men and women aren't exactly on vacation.

Partly because only Army and Marines are actually deployed in Iraq. Partly because we have ccommittments aelewhere as well (e.g., Koreaa). And partly because we also have two wars to fignt--thanks to Bush's dishonesty in getting us into Iraq in the first place.

The ration of front line combat troops is far less than the Combat Support and Combat Service Support. If you want to figure it in numbers..it's about 25-30 support to one combat troop.

because it depends on their job (MOS) cause i dont think it would be very smart to send desk job people in the front line kicking in doors cause then they would have even more casualties
