My daughter's school sends bills for her lunches/breakfasts and we then pay for past due and about 2 weeks ahead. Then we wait for them to send us another bill and so on and so forth. It has been this way since I can remember. Well, last week Tues we got a bill for her meals. I always write bills out on Fridays. Friday she got another bill signed by the principal stating bill must be pd or no meals will be allowed after 2/26(today). I wrote out a check for $100 to cover past and future like normal and put it in her folder to take to school today. She got to school this morning and got in the breakfast line and was told she was not able to eat breakfast. My daughter is 7 and had no idea why she was being told this or she could have just taken the check out of her folder and gave it to someone. No call was made to me or her dad stating they were not gonna allow her to eat or we could have explained where the money was. I am upset about this and wanted some opinions.

BTW the school discourages parents to give their child daily cash for lunches. I am sure I could come up with a better system of paying, I just have always done it this way and never had a problem. Did not think they would tell her she can't eat.

I think that this is a awful thing. They should let your daughter have breakfast. I mean say about the people who can't afford to pay the bills, and have to relay on the school to give them breakfast. If your paying the bills and keeping them up to date then there shouldn't be a problem. But maybe if they don't you should give her breakfast before school if you have time. If not call up the school and have a talk with who ever is in charge of giving it.

give her the money each day for her meals so she can pay for it right then. The school system is real messed up these days. If you want to do something about it go about there heads and talk to the school directors. I would also ask the school what they expect you to do. If that was my daughter I'd tell her to call me ( work, home, cell ect..) if she gets told she couldn't have breakfast and I would go up to the school right then and deal with the problem.

First of all, why are you paying for your child's meals late? Isn't your job as a parent to make sure that food is taken care of? It seems a little irresponsible to allow this to go into late payments, and that you have "done this since you can remember" is shocking to me, as a fellow parent...but that is just my personal opinion.
At some point, even schools have to put a stop to people taking advantage of the system. Being 7, why do you expect her to know that she could have just taken a check out of the folder and taken care of it...she's 7 and was probably embarassed beyond belief to begin with. You should have never let it get to this point. Sorry, but the school should not have been held responsible for your lack of financial care.

Maybe instead of putting the money in your daughters folders for her to remember to give to someone....you should take it yourself to the school office so they have a record of it. Seven-year olds have a way of losing things and it'd be awful if your check would get lost. I think the school should have still given your daughter breakfast...then they could have given you a call saying 'hey, we need the payment for...etc' and you could have told them your daughter had it in her folder.

It sounds like they are sick of you "running up a tab" - even still, they should have given your daughter breakfast. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it - but I would start making sure I paid her school food bill ahead of time from now on.

Instead of writing checks, send your kid to school with her own breakfast and lunch from home. That way the school will have less money.
