A species may become extinct becasue it's habitat has been destroyed or because the enviroment changes in a direction that is unfavourable to the species. A mass extinction occurs when there is a sharp decrease in the number of species in a relatively short period of time.

Throughout time, there has been much mass extinction on this planet. To this date, there have been at least 5 mass extinctions throughout the planet. All these has been caused by natural ways, such as meteorites crashing into the planet, causing a climate change, volcanic eruptions also causing a climate change, the reversing of the magnetic poles, creating a temporal disappearance in the magnetic field, which allows the suns harmful rays to enter the atmosphere, and many other theories.

Now, considering all the damages we are doing to the environment, such as: Global Warming, War, Pollution
Do you believe that the human race will drive ourselves into extinction or al least create a mass extinction? Why?

No we will not drive ourselves to extinction. We will let our current status put us in a real good bind and cause a few problems and we will learn from it. We will have to make sacrifices and modifications to our entire culture in order to survive and have anything close to the way we currently live. Our economy is tied to the petroleum industry and we will have to hurt real bay before the people with money will give up their strangle hold on alternate energy technologies. Mankind is the most adaptable creature ever to exist and we will survive.

there are two moments in a species existance when the danger of exstinction is greatest
one as you say is a drop in numbers ,when there are to few
and the other is when there are two many

the law of Equilibrium or harmony (seccond law of Nature),is very relentless
everybody in nature is welcome as long as they maintain a balance

when it exceeds the norm ,nature considders this a plague and responds merciless

a field of maize as far as nature is concerned is a plague of maize ,and the response is ,disease or predetors
Modern farming tries to counter act this with pesticides and herbicides ,but looses in the end ,and more often than not dead land (deserification )is the result

the same laws apply to animals an excess of rabits results in more foxes being born ,and an excess of foxes can wipe the rabbits out .
this has happened over and over again in cases of excess with any species .

Man tends to forget that we must abide by the same laws

the world population has doubled in the last 50 years ,and seen from spaxce we can be regarded as a plague that infests the Earth.
Many people believe (including me )that all life is an escalating collection of life forms with dimensional differences
small living upon a bigger life form and so on
to the bacteria on out bodies ,we are their world
and the same is happening at all levels
if we project the same philosiphy ,saying that what works going down in dimensions the same should hold true for going the other way ,making us a micro life form on the body of a bigger one
this would make the Earth a living entiry ,with moods ,and feelings and intelligence
this is the Gaia hypothethis

and Gaia is not very happy right now
humanity is attacked from al sides ,earthquackes ,erupting volcanos ,tornados ,hurricanes ,diseases ,and wars

Maybe Mother Earth is trying to tell us something ,
like slow down control our populations .

if not beware the wrath of gaia
and thus Humanity would be in danger of exstinction

but in all truth ,looking at todays politics it looks as if a Global nuclear war might beat gaia to the finish (uor Finish)
if global warming, meteor showers ,a shift of the poles dont get us first

best thing to do is to enjoy yourself .live life to the full at least we are all in the same boat

I'd honestly be more concerned with farming practices. Humans have clearly exceeded that natural carrying capacity of our environment (and have done so with advances in agriculture)... It WILL catch up to us. A mass extinction may not be the result, but the human population will crash eventually as a result of our own desire to procreate and increase our population....

Global warming etc etc... are really going to hit us hard in the agricultural area (more so than resulting tsunamis etc.).

it is arguable that the west is in decline because of declining birthrate, and ever present chemicals in manufactured and processed foods, toxic metals,pesticides.2 thousand years ago the roman empire declined because of overextension of empire and also because of lead lining often found in earthenware amphorae , wine goblets and cups thereby causing sterility. It has been known for 100 years that asbestos has toxic and often fatal effects on human lung and intestines ,causing mesothelioma and asbestosis. At present, legal firms advertise on public transportation vehicles everywhere in the us,reminding riders of funds available to treat these conditions, funds through which they will obviously collect fees. There are arguments as well that the planet is COOLING and for the past 30 years we' ve been experiencing a temporary spike because of aircraft entrails which slow the rate of heat loss.we shall see.

yes because of pollution and the suns rays becoming hotter and closer so we will all melt but apart from that we will eventually destroy each other because of wars, racism and federal beliefs. the ozone layer is so far not strong enough to support any more flights out of the atmosphere so we will eventually lose gravity and also oxygen and carbon dioxide

Naw. We might have a great decline in population but humans will survive. This is in reply to the question of our responsibility in our demise.

Sadly I do,because of what you have mentioned and the proliferation of nuclear power for both peaceful and belligerent purposes.
