It makes me feel good that someone has been flying it long enough to get tattered and torn, also makes me want to take it down and repair it or have the ceremonial flag burning.

Pretty sad..you are getting a lot of ridiculous answers here...if you are really SERIOUS...the U. S. flag flying "tattered and torn"...is a symbol of the strife that this country has been through..the lives it has given for us and others...I know that when one is worn and tattered it should be replaced..but how about letting it "fly" to represent what we as a country has been through....agree or not agree with our "current" government...the flag is a symbol of our struggles, hopes...and what we as a country has accomplished..We are a country that must be and stay United...or we are nothing against the other oppressive's that are out there!

I'm proud to be an american but honestly I don't even pay attention to flags. I think people who would say they get all teary eyed, like the old coke commericals with the native american man tearing up over a piece of litter, are a little too proud. If I saw it flying torn up, I'd probably think well that's discgraceful someone should fix it it's not something to go into a rage over. Now if someone was purposely destroying the flag, ie burning or ripping, that would be another story, I'd take offense to that.

That the owner is too lazy and cheap to get a new one. Why bother flying a flag if you're not going to fly a nice one? Also, the Flag Code says that a flag unsuitable for display should be destroyed.

Does not make me feel one way or another. A flag may represent something, but in the end it is just some coloured cloth.
If it is tattered and torn, then it is only symbolic if you look at it that way.

Bertha, regrettably, there is little you could do. showing the american flag is an decision, no longer a regulation. As a wrestle veteran, I comprehend your angst. There are guidelines that govern the showing of the flag yet they're hardly ever enforced. I see those flag draped coffins each day and It angers me to make sure it abused. comprehend that we Veterans love and apprieciate your thoughts. God bless you, and God bless u.s.! Mike

I think some folks are just ignorant about how to display a flag properly. Like, for example, you don't leave it out at night unless you have a light shining on it.....

Sad, a United States flag should be flown in pristine condition or not at all.

When i see a flag like that it makes me want to tell the person " if you don't like our country , you don't deserve to live in it so get out of this country , hater!" and hope to God that they leave ASAP.
