Hi. I have a new tattoo of a word on the inside of my wrist that's almost a week old. It has scabbed and is very raised. The raised part looks as though all of the ink is in the scab. What worries me is that in one place the scab looks split open and a lot lighter that the rest of the tattoo (it was originally all one color). Is this normal healing or did I lose some of the ink? I have been using A&D a couple times a day and making sure the are is not overly dry or moist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Since this is on my wrist and therefore very visible I'm freaking out a little and I don't know when I will be able to afford to get it touched up. Thanks in advance!

I know it's not infected because there isn't much redness and it's not fevered or itching. I'm a nurse so I being very watchful for any signs of infection. Just funny scabbing.

You should be using unscented lotion at this point.

First, there is nothing you can do if the scab pulls color, but as a nurse you should know that a scab should not be so thick and dried out that it cracks. Get some lotion into it at least three times a day.

A&D has two problematic ingredients for tattoos: petrolatum and lanolin. Don't use it.

As you go through the healing process your tattoo will be all different shades until that epidermis heals into its normally transparent state.

My tatt on my wrist is about 1 week old and from what you are saying its not supposed to split open like that , I suggest you go back to the tattoo parlor and show them maybe they can help you with that

the same thing happened to me and i have a tattoo of a symbol in the same place.
the scab will simply fall off taking ink with it.
i had to go back to the tattoist so he could go over it again, at no extra charge of course!
don't worry, it's happened to plenty of people before. it's normal!

it might be normal, but it might also be a rejection of the ink. only your artist and doctor can tell for sure. if it doesn't look infected, just keep doing what you're doing (A&D), and watch the area. since we don't have a picture to go on, just wait. if most of the color has appeared to come off, go see a doctor. hopefully, you went to a good artist, so that there is no problems there. good luck! i hope it heals.

my advice to you DON"T use A&D its ok to use for a couple of days but you should use a lotion, I like curel the best my bf had that happen with his tattoo a little bit but its not really normal he ended up having a lil bit of scarring where that happened......Good luck

It's normal for tattoes to be red and irritated, but I don't think that sounds normal at all. I would most definitely see a doctor; maybe it was a bad tattoo job.
Jeez, I don't think I'm ever going to get a tattoo now....Haha, thanks for that!
