N***** actually came from nigeria. The workers in fields and on the river were called "n******" it was never a negative connotation. When it came over here it became negative towards the slaves in the south. It was never applied to the africans in the north. After the civil war white people started using it towards all africans. The name still is used today by over half of the white population.
