I have a chihuahua and i think there are more pros then cons. He sits on my lap and just lays there all night, he sleeps under our blankets all night and is just so cute. I love my chihuahua to death. He is like our 2nd child.

Cons -They are fragile. They can be stepped on, their bones can break easily, and they can fall off couches and seriously hurt themselves or worse. This should always be in the back of an owner's mind. - They are not ideal for families with children. These dogs are primarily one person dogs. They are also not particularly fond of children. The over-zealous child could be interpreted as a threat by the Chihuahua and the Chihuahua may bite. Pros -This one is obvious. They are cute! Their petite bodies are the epitome of awwwww. -They are ideal for apartment life. Being as small as they are, they can get all the exercise they need in an 800 sq. ft. living space. -Being an owner of two chihuahuas, I can tell you that Massachusetts winters are extremely brutal. My girls do not want to go outside during a blizzard. A benefit of having a Chihuahua is that their messes are so small that they can use a doggy litter box indoors. -They are completely and utterly in love with their owners. Their extreme devotion and affection is something to marvel. They always want to sit in your lap, lick your face, or cuddle on a cold winter night. They are excellent security dogs and are very protective of their owners. -They have relatively few health problems. The main concern is a molera on their skulls. Similar to a baby's soft-spot, It is a place on the head where the skull has not fully closed. Another concern is patellar luxation. The Chihuahua's kneecap can slide in and out of the tendon causing discomfort. - They are low maintenence. Grooming is basically non-essential. They only grooming my girls recieve is nail clippings and monthly baths. They also never get stinky! -They live a long time. The average lifepsan of a chihuahua is 11-20 years.

I helped hand raise the Chihuahua i have now since she and her littler mates were just a week old. She is now 8 weeks old and a new member to our family. I didn't ever think I would be one of those "dog people", but i am...i love her so much already!
Coming from someone that just got a chihuahua...WATCH OUT where you walk! So far the potty training is going "okay". The PROS??? She is fun, the kids love her (don't worry older children), i love her, and i catch my husband picking up the little ankle biter now and then! She is wonderful!

I have 7 Chihuahuas presently, and I find that the downside of ownership is that they are yappers, they are always under foot, they have the "Napoleon syndrome" , and they are VERY possessive of people. The pros are that they are very affectionate, loving little dogs, they are a smart breed of dog and they don't need a lot of space. They are content to lay in your lap while you watch TV or what ever.

I think that the pros far out weigh the cons. I have one and he is the light of our lives . He is like having another baby in the house and it is great . they are really easy to train ,leash, potty anything . One of the smartest breeds I have ever known .cons you have to socialize alot . so take them around to alot of ppl that you know . That is about it . I love chihuahuas.

We used to have a chihuahua. They are better in the facts that they are smaller and easier to handle, their bark is not as loud as larger dogs, and consequently less annoying. They also cost less to feed, and, if it is not a long-haired chihuaha, then they do not shed quite so badly. They can also be easier transported than larger dogs and are better with children than larger dogs. But, they are harder to potty train than other dogs I have encountered. They also yap constantly, even if it is quieter. You may also step on them, and it is easier for them to escape from your yard. Overall, I think there are more pros than cons to getting a chihuaha. And, they are just so adorable!

Cons: They can be very hard to socialize. They tend to bond with only one owner. As with any small dog, you can trip over them too. So you have to be careful where you walk. One thing that will help to overcome this, is to take your dog out to a lot of places and pick him up as little as possible at the beginning, so that he gets used to being on the ground. Also, with the smaller ones, there tend to be more issues with potty training.
Better to point out the bad, because if you can get over that, then you'll like the dog. Good luck!
