I have a 7 mth old pitbull who is extremely close with me. I've had him since he was 7 wks old and because im home schooled Im around him 24/7...the prob. is, everytime I leave him, even for just an hr. he gets really upset.

I plan on graduating and moving out in a year with my boyfriend, and Im going to have to get a job..what am I going to do about my dog!?

I thought maybe I could get him a friend since he gets along with everything but I dont really want another dog...so then I thought maybe I'll get him a kitten or cat friend but I dont know if a cat would keep him company or play with him...

WHAT DO YOU THINK I COULD DO?
and if your racist against his breed please dont respond.

I had the same problem...you can either get him a friend , but that is double the responsibility, money and much harder for you in the end because they will compete for your attention. make sure that he has lots of toys and a rawhide...so he has something to do when your gone. Just make sure he wont eat it all in one day, it will make him sick. If it makes you feel any better I heard that dogs cant tell if your gone for an hour or 8 hours so you working really won't be that traumatizing to him.

I would say doggie day care if you can afford it. Some places can be really resonable. The other thing is to crate train him. I dont think a cat would do well with a pitbull. Im only saying that if he was raised with cats then ok but he hasnt been. Also a female pitbull would be less dominant than a male. If you can swing it id say doggie daycare would be the best. That way your dog gets to socialize and play with other dogs or not as you would have the option and would get some personal care during the day.

I would not get him another dog yet. I will tell you that you are going to have a difficult time trying to give your dog a good quality of life based on the fact that you are going to be out a lot working and everything. You will also have a surprisingly difficult time finding an apartment that will A- Allow dogs, and B- Allow pitbulls. The reason is that your landlord will have to pay extra insurance because of the liability of having that particular breed of dog there.

I would tell you to find him somewhere nice to live for the time being where someone can give him the attention he deserves, such as your parents house?

If you are intent on keeping him, and life will be stressful for you and the dog, I would crate train him. There are plenty of books available on this, and it is a good training method in your case since he is so codependant. It will allow you to create distance between you, and ensure you will also continue to be his master.

My dog was the same way and it took her a little while to get used to it but she is fine now. I don't think a kitten would be a good choice because they aren't raised together. Most dogs don't like cats. Before you start working you should leave him/her by theirself everynow and then to get used to you being gone. Get him some toys and you may have to raise the window blinds so he can look outside. I also leave the TV on the animal planet for my dog........I don't think she watches but I think the noise helps her while I'm gone.

well first all i dont think you should get a kitten or a cat to make youre dog feel happy cause most dogs doesnt even like cats first place . but if you dont have any time to play with youre dog or even take care of him when youre so busy with school and home work ect then i will just gave him up and find some body else who loves dogs and willin gave him a new home with some body who will play with him everyday and even take him out side sometimes . if you cant be there all the time with the dog . plus by the way have you talk to your boyfriend about keeping the dog with you when you re moving out . like does he like dogs if he does then i wouldnt worrying so much about take care of the dog and take it with youguys . when youre do get a job and working then still youre boyfriend or some body like youre friends can watch the dog for you when you come back home from work . plus when youre not home all day you can get him some squeezes toys and stuffed animals that youre dog can play with when it home alone . does keep dogs busy all day or have one of youre friends who also have a dog and willin allow to bring her or his dog to youre place so that the dogs can play eachother instead.

I had one for 11 years he did the same thing IT was separation anxiety a radio worked but only after working with him in small time increments. I would put him in a very secure indoor kennel and leave for 10 minutes to start. And worked myself up to 7 hours. Once he was full grown he had no more problems. I would turn the radio on the voices seemed to help. Hope this helps

I have a neighbor come in and walk my dog in the afternoon while I'm at work. I also keep soft music on in the house while I'm gone. I hope that these suggestions work for your dog, too.

(I don't recommend getting a cat for your breed of dog.)

I have seen several pitbulls, including one my daughter had, who were just big babies. It sounds like you don't want him to be outside your home,or I'd recommend a doggie daycare. Maybe a talking Macaw or other parrot to make your dog think you're still around by imitating your phrases.

Check and see if there are any "doggy daycares" near your house and try enrolling him in that. That's what I have to do with my dog because I'm in an apartment, and leaving her all day in an apartment wouldn't be fair. So she gets to go to the local doggy day care and plays with other dogs all day while I work.
