Both dogs are around a year old, all shots, and all that, plus 'fixed' He is more dominant then my girl and although I have my own thoughts on this, I thought i would see what others have to say. The dogs are beautiful together and play great, they are both all white in color, the girl is bigger then the boy as she is a malamute.

I think a lot of you gave good answers. I am letting the dogs make thier pack, they are doing well. The male came in and gave me alpha role immediatly, but is also making sure my girl knows her role. It's really a great time bringing in my new boy. Thanks for all of your responses.

As you probably already know, Malamute's are not known for their fondness of other dog...or cats...or birds etc.

They are highly pack orientated and will jostle for hierarchy at any opportunity.

But!, you made a good choice in bringing home a Husky. Their mental state is pretty much the same. Your Malamute may be assertive and bring the husky into check once in awhile. Just make certain that the Malamute is not being a bully, and affecting the character of the husky.

I don't think you'll have much choice in the matter.
The male WILL be dominant to the female, UNLESS the female has an 'alpha mentality', in which case she simply won't let him.
Dogs seem to have a simple way to establish 'order in the pack' without wasting as many words as humans do on 'negotiations'.
Unless he becomes agressive to her (not likely), just let him be dominant. They'll both be happy with their chosen rung of the ladder.

I would let the dogs decide who is going to be dominant. If the female stays alpha, then that's fine. But if the male becomes dominant, recognize it, don't try to fight it. Because the dogs will be much happier once they have established who is who. Good luck!

The dogs will absolutely find their own pecking order if you will.

When I brought home my German Shepherd pup my roomate at the time had a Black Lab (male) who very much pushed for dominance.

However with time he "lost" the battle and allowed my GSD to be the dominant of the two. As long as your male isnt just bullying your Husky, then they will find their own order themselves.

The dogs will determine who is the dominant one. You can really only control the behaviour so far, and if they play well together, I wouldn't worry.

Just make sure they know you are the boss

Theres no way on this earth you have control over dogs dominancy, This is something they work out with each other in their own time.

Your female will be the domonant dog because she was there first. I think she will let him know and they will work it out.
