It's called TMJ or Temporomandibular (Jaw) Joint http://www.tmj.org/
I have it.
I noticed a HUGE difference when my wisdom teeth were removed. It took a lot of the strain off of the joint.
To "release" your jaw...You have to try real hard to relax and rub the joint. Don't force it open. There's a pad that sits inside the joint. That pad can become disconnected and slip. Inflamation and slippage will cause the locking.

It's called TMJ I had to get a Herbst and that made mine go away but the herbst is mainly for pulling your jaw forward and things that have to do with the orthodontist. You should look in to getting a night guard, my mom and dad have them and they said it helps releave pressure. But you should also talk to your dentist because he might recomend something better for you
