Do you have a shoes off house? How do you let guests know they have to take their shoes off?

I don't, but my friend's house is an everyone takes their shoes off kind of place, and they have a cute handpainted tile hanging by their front door (outside) that says "Mahalo for removing your shoes". They got it on their vacation to Hawaii. Its in a visible place while not looking tacky (like a no solicitors sign) so while you're waiting for someone to answer the door, it catches your eye and you get the message. Saves everyone the awkward conversation.

Off in my house, but we let guests wear their shoes if they want to. There is an area next to the door for shoes, so most people will just take the shoes off.

I'm a full-time barefooter but I don't like a shoes-off rule. I don't want people to tell me what I should or shouldn't wear on my feet, why should I tell others? Only if they have very muddy shoes I'll ask them to remove their shoes but if they'd rather rinse off their shoes at the outside hose that's fine with me too.

Shoes off.

For those unfamiliar with the house rules, I usually extend a cheery greeting of "Take your shoes off and feel right at home."

For those who that are too thick to get the message I will then tell them flat out, "Shoes are not worn indoors in this house."

Shoes are not required to be off at our house. I take mine off and I'm always barefoot. Can't stand socks (except in shoes). My husband has his shoes on all the time (unless they're muddy, then he'll take them off).

My mother on the other hand, it's shoes off at her house. If we don't, she'll just ask us and guests to take off our shoes.

Off with the shoes! I hate it when people come into my house with their shoes on. How do I ask? I just politely ask them to leave their shoes in the mud room or in the foyer. What about service personnel? I have booties for them to wear over their shoes, most bring their own.

In our house the family members take their shoes off but our company isn't obligated to take their shoes off. Many of our company do take off their shoes, especially when they see four pair of shoes lined up near the front door.

Family takes off shoes, guests no.

Off, because it's easier to keep the house clean. (I have dust allergy.)

Guests always take off their shoes without asked. I think it's because we have our shoe rack right by the door. They'd usually get the hint.

Shoes off if my wife is around. Shoes on at other times. She has a small sign at the door that says "please remove your shoes" and a shoe cabinet in the entrance way. She also keeps a supply of clean socks there in case a guest wants to cover their feet.
