there is nothing wrong w/ it. it is great music. some ccm music does not directly relate 2 god but deals w/ issues that r going on in the world and problems that people face everyday. it is a great alternative to most other music out there. it has a message that can actually influence u to live a better life. it reaches out to many teens who would not listen 2 gospel or other types of music. it offers the same amount of information about god and how he wants us to live our lives but w/ a better beat. all it does is give gods word to millions of people through the radio. there is nothing wrong w/ that.♥

This issue has been a problem since before Beethoven's time. The old priests thought "Gregorian Chants were the Only music for the church". they didn't want any of that newfangled piano music! Now I am an Old Baptist myself and have fought these wars for a long time. (usually on the side of the kids) CCM is wonderful! The problem is style. Some old folks just can't stand all those drums and guitars. It isn't a question of theology because those new groups praise God with their whole hearts. the only thing I see in CCM is a dramatic increase in the use of the word "I" (I can only imagine...Etc) Some think it is less of Jesus and more of Me. Don't worry about a few grumblers. Praise God with your whole heart and make a "Joyful noise" There's nothing that is too new for God.
By the way, my church has 2 contemporary and 1 traditional service. (southern baptist)

Some denominations don't like contemporary Christian music because of the instrumentation used (drums, electric guitars, basses, etc). They simply think it is "loud" and that styles like Rock, R&B, and Rap/Hip Hop are "worldly" and therefore "not acceptable." However, there a many CCM artists out there whose words are full of sound theology and excellent messages because they are inspiried by a deep understanding of the Bible and God's grace... While I personally prefer hymns in worship, I also love many of the new songs for the reason I stated earlier. I'm sorry your school is being legalistic about music. If you have a choice or say in what school you attend, you could transfer. But if you can't change, you'll just have to put up with the legalism for the time being. CCM will be around for a long time.

Nothing wrong with CCM. I seriously doubt Jesus listened to country or bluegrass music that the Baptists would pawn off on you as being the only true music.
Look at lyrics. All music is creative and comes from God - it is the lyrics that make the piece acceptable. And there is much, much garbage in the lyrics the strict Baptists would promote. Many of the songs the old schools would condemn as being too fluffy are far more scriptural than many songs they would have in their hymn book.
My personal favorite - Third Day.

I went to a school just like yours, and I think you are right. I heard lots of bad arguments for why "Christian rock" was sinful, but they were all based on the feelings of the people making them. Also, they had bad associations in their minds with rock music which made them decide the whole style was wrong. I believe that you can use the music that makes up CCM to praise God. The Bible talks about all kinds of instruments being used in worship, and never specifies a style. If you can listen to it in faith and it causes you to glorify God, it is right. Don't let a person forbid something that God has not forbidden.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with CCM the religious people at that school are stuck in 1974. What is there objection to it, that it has a beat?
What do they find acceptable? Even George Beverly Shey was once thought to be to wild, and rejected by the RELIGIOUS windbags of the time.

The word "strict" is a clue. It's another way of saying stodgy, stuffy and old-fashioned. There is a distrust among some congregations of music that moves anything more than your head, or anything that isn't "traditional".
The only problem I have with CCM is the predominance of "praise" music that expresses all sorts of gratitude to God and Jesus for their wonderfulness without any obligation on the Christian to love and serve their neighbor. Otherwise, it's cool.

This is great music with THE universal christian message. CCM doesn't really get into doctrinal issues. It is just the love of Christ. Your church is probably more accustom to hymns. To me, even CCM can get a little boring, but it still feeds the spirit the things of the Spirit.

CCM is awesome. It reaches people who might never hear the Gospel otherwise. Many people get saved at CCM concerts. Lots of older people are set in their ways and will never agree to this but I am 43 and would much rather listen to something more upbeat and happy sounding and I love to dance! I want music I can dance to that doesn't have all the foul language that some do.

Huh... you've got me there. As a music-lover, musician, and CHURCH musician, I find very little in music that would be displeasing to God. Lyrics and intent behind the music - those might not be so great. (Somehow I don't think God is fond of music that promotes beating your spouse, for example.)
But then again, I still run into people in the Catholic church who say if it isn't the organ, it doesn't belong in the mass. (Which is funny since 4 centuries ago, the organ was considered a profane instrument completely unsuited for any house of worship.) So who knows what some people are thinking. I say, judge for yourself and if you are in doubt, take it to prayer.
