You can have a parent start up a joint checking account and get a debit card that works like a credit card... other than that, yes, you need to be 18. To my understanding, you can get a credit card if you're emancipated, but that's really not worth it.

Eligibility

To avail of the credit card, you should be at least 18 years of age. You should be employed or have some regular source of income. These are two important criteria and if you can give convincing proof to demonstrate your suitability, you will be easily approved. You may have failed to pay back the old credit card debt or some flaw may be present in your credit report. In this situation, getting a card will be tough.

Credit Rating

Your credit history is important when it is the matter of approving you for the credit. It depends on your personal details, salary, whether there are defaults or court judgments against you, and various factors. They are used in an equation that calculates your personal score. Lenders will then decide whether to approve your application or not, depending on this score.

Remember various other companies will also use your credit report. Besides credit companies, insurance companies and employers who want to hire employees, will also have a look at your credit report. You may be surprised, but always keep your credit report clear by paying on time.

In the United States, no. You have to be 18 yeard of age or older. This is because you must be a legal adult to enter into a binding contract, which is a requirement of applying for a credit card.

You could set up a joint checking account though. Then you could get a debit card, which works a bit differently. Credit cards borrow money which you need to pay back, (Debt, debt, debt!) but Debit cards work like a check would and take money from your existing account.

Also, remember, credit cards aren't all they're cracked up to be. Sure you could go out and splurge on something, but you *will* have to pay it back, plus intrest rates which can sometimes be really steep. You have to be really careful with the way you spend. ;)

You have to be 18. If you have a checking or savings account you can get a debit card. If you are wanting to make online purchases, I would recommend going to the mall and buying a pre-paid gift card with a major logo (available at the customer service dept). The couple bucks you pay for the card will be worth the security of making online purchases without worrying about someone stealing your bank info.

Have to be an adult (18+) to legally get a card, however your parents can get a card and authorize you to use it-if they trust you with their credit. Personally I think that is crazy, 'cause I remember how irresponsible I was at 16, but some parents I know have done this.

Geez, kid! Are you really that excited about digging a nice little debt hole for yourself that you want to get started doing it early? I assure you, credit cards are not a blessing. You are headed for serious trouble if you start digging a hole now. I seriously hope you will at least visit the website below & listen to some of the podcasts on it before you do something extremely stupid. Credit cards are for people that don't have real money...real money is more fun. You get to spend it & invest it & give it. It's a blast. BTW, when you INVEST, other people pay YOU interest. That is much more fun that paying it yourself.

You can be 16 with parent cosigning it or 18 by yourself, but why do you need a credit card at 16? If you are employed then just use the money you have, or have one strictly in case of emergencies. Credit Card debt is the highest increasing form of debt in your adults. It will carry with you forever. Be careful.

You have to wait until you are 18.

If you are younger, you are still legally a minor and a minor can't make a binding contract. So if you were to be issued a credit card you could run up huge bills and not be responsible for paying them.

Actually, you can get a credit card. I had my first at 16. However, you'll have to have a parent cosign and the limit will be very low. My starting limit was $300, but how much do you really need? Mine was from Capital One, so perhaps you should start there.
