As long as you do not over dye, Like dye your hair over and over again you'll be ok. Just follow the directions closely or better yet have a professional do it. It will not affect your hair color for life. Your hair will grow out and after the dye to will start to see the "roots" growing out after a while. It will be the same hair color as you always had. Your dad might be thinking of an old saying that if you have curly hair and cut it at a young age it will grow back straight. Now this is true. But you are not going to change your hair color no matter what. (unless you dye it) Otherwise the people that make those hair dyes would probably go out of business. God gave you that hair color and that is what you'll have for the rest of your days.....hope this helps a little :) Oh they also make dyes that wash out! They usally take longer than what the box says but this is an alternative to permenate. I love these kinds because it lets me play around with different colors and not have to worry about it being forever or keeping up with the roots.

The question is not really about the age here.
You see I started dying my hair at 12. First I did highlights, then turned into a blond, then red, etc. I stopped when I realized that my hair does not even look like hair anymore, and spend a lot of money and time to get my natural hair color and hair back!!This is an extreme, of course. But I would not think twice whether to dye my hair or not anymore, I would think 6,7,100 times!
Besides, if you have a unique hair color, do not turn "regular"!Our hair color is designed specifically for us and most of the time matches the skin tone, features, etc perfectly. I would recommend highlighting it a little bit. BUT not in your case, since your haircolor must be beautiful from what you are saying!
There is nothing wrong with dying your hair, but you should be very confident that you want it, since it is very-very-very hard to get it back to the color you had before.

Your dad's probably just saying that to get you to abort the idea. He likely just doesn't want you dying your hair at such a young age. I think 12 is too young, and I wonder why you would want to? My daughter wanted to dye her hair blonde when she was 9. I think it was a self-esteem problem, plus her "obsession" with Hillary Duff. :o) She's a beautiful girl, as I am sure you are too. You shouldn't get caught up with altering your appearance. Just appreciate your natural God-given beauty. If you want to lighten it in the summer, try just using Sun-In or some such product. When I was 16, I dyed my hair (strawberry blonde actually) and got a perm, plus swam in a chlorinated pool all summer. Well, all of those chemicals really did a number on my hair. It turned bright orange and became like straw. If you start using chemicals in your hair at such a young age, just imagine the condition your hair will be in when you are older. I agree with your Dad, and I hope that you will change your mind too. If you really feel you need to, just get a few blonde highlights. I'm sure even your father would agree with that.

It won't affect you forever, not physically and definitely not emotionally. I'm not sure if dying your hair could affect you emotionally . . . It won't affect your skin at all.
You are kind of young, so definitely make sure that you want to dye it. You have to keep up with it, or else you'll get roots. If you don't like it, get it dyed back to your original color. Just don't do it yourself, that never works out. Personally I would take the strawberry-blonde hair over dirty blonde.
Question: why do you want to dye your hair another color if people complement you on your natural color? Just asking.

Nope. I dyed my hair when I was exactly your age. Maybe start with something small...like just adding highlights. Thats what I did. I had browny blonde hair and I added red and gold high lights, then I dyed it dark brown, and everything other colour you can imagine. Now it's a pretty blonde colour and I'm 16. It won't affect you. Dads are weird, how would they know about anything beauty-wise anyways? They're guys.
Also, I don't like people who think its not right to change your natural hair colour. Everyone nowadsays does. To me, it's art. I love to be creative and I never look the same. I want to be a fashion designer someday, and currently I'm doing some modeling as a side job....it requires me to change my look a lot! I've gone from short bobs to long hair, with bangs to no bangs...different colours. The only thing you want to be careful with when dying your hair is making sure you use conditioner...you want to keep your locks moisturized and bleach can make them a little dry, but hardly enough for it to be a problem. Go ahead and have fun, experiment with different colours. Sometimes the colour we're born with doesn't match who we want to be on the inside. You could be born a brunette and want to be a blonde bombshell, or be born a redhead and want to be a saultry brunette. Experiment to find out what you like best!

I started colouring my hair when I was nearly 15. (Me also golden blonde and wanted it a white/silver blonde)
If you are desperate to colour it now, use a semi permant wash out dye. A permanent dye will reck your hair and it won't improve unless you cut it off and don't colour it again.
Once you have coloured it, don't re-colour it again until at least 6 weeks has passed.
Note that your hormones will affect your skin and hair whether your hair is coloured or not.
Just use a really good conditioner once you start colouring and you should be ok.

your age is not really a factor in dyeing your hair I have been doing mine since I was 13. I don't think it is a good idea though cause you never know how your color will change when you go through the changes of your teenage years.

girlfriend... dont dye your hair. you are going to regret it so much. I know now in the 7th grade you prolly dont like the color of your hair too much. Believe me... i didnt either. i hated the color of my hair. But when you get older... you are going to want to have your strawberry blonde hair! Guys love girls with strawberry blonde hair! Take it from me... i have guys who started talkin to me just because they liked my hair color. lol. You should be proud of your hair color! not a lot of people are gifted with red hair. I have a lot of people tell me how beautiful my hair color is and how they wished their hair color was like mine. lol. And do you not notice how many blondes dye their hair red? Just trust me... i think you will regret it in the future... cause it will be hard to dye your hair back to your natural color. and you are going to want it to be back to the color it is now!
ALSO... i read that dying your hair dries and damages your hair because of the ammonia and peroxides. And since summer is coming up... you are going to be out in the sun and its going to make the color fade. AND if you use hair dye frequently may increase the risk of cancer.

No way. I have been dying my hair twice a month since i was 14. I'm 20 years old now and my skin hasn't changed a bit. As long as you take care of your skin you'll be fine.
