Be honest about how you feel w/o telling him you're not interested in him that way. Tell him you cherish the friendship that the two of you have and don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. If he persists, just tell him you're afraid if things don't work out that you'd lose him as friend and you'd rather keep what you have then risk losing it.

Apologize handsomely for your feelings being the way they are.

Not that anybody ever "deserves" an apology like that, but a good friend is the sort of person to whom one gives MORE than they "deserve" when it seems like a nice thing to do.

to quote the novel, "The Road to Memphis":

main character is in the same situation, so she says that she doesnt want to date him, because if they break up, thier friendship could take a tumble. and i have observed the same thing. just let him know that you dont feel that way, but you still want to be freinds with him. it might take a while for him to get used to it, because if he said love, it'll be like takin 30 knives in his heart. nothin you can really do other than that, i think

Tell him exactly that, dear. Remember, honesty is the best policy..not the happiest, but still the best. He may not like it and may even distance himself, but that willl show you what a real friend he is.

Gosh i think your friend ship will be ruined, because you should say something like "sorry, i just want to be friends" then he'll be devastated and when ever your near him everything will get all uncomfortable. you'll just have to do what you think is right.

Exactly what you just told me! If he is TRULY your best friend then he will understand. Best friends should be understanding (his part) and truthful (your part)! Don't worry I'm sure he will understand, just tell him you just wanna be friends!

just tell him you want to be friends. If hes a decent guy then give him a chance though. go to the movies with him or something and see if he can be dating material.

give em a chance.

If you told him you have to think about it then you already told him NO. If you want to just be friends, then tell him that you just want to be friends... if he can't handle it then that is his problem.
