Perform in public places as much as you can.

Yes, agreed. Perform as much as you can. If you have the opportunity to sing - at church, at schools, at local events, fairs, festivals, whatever - DO IT.

Continue to get training or perfect your singing style/craft. But above all, learn what type of music really showcases your voice. Keep practicing, too. Escalate your octave range by pushing yourself with vocal exercises and keep singing.

Also - take care of your voice. Don't smoke, don't drink too much, eat healthy, sleep, rest your voice, too - don't overdo it. And make sure you do seek the advice of a vocal coach. Some people can do more damage to their vocal chords (and eventually need operations) - if they are not using their voices properly.

Keep singing - and sing wherever and whenever you can. Make connections/contacts, get feedback from people other than your friends and family - ask them what they like/don't like about your voice. Practice and listen to yourself on a tape recorder. Close your eyes, listen .....be critical. And above all be honest with yourself about room for improvement. And keep at it.
