I like it when a man shakes my hand and puts his other hand over the top of my hand that he is shaking. It just seems more classy...and kind...don't know why...

If you're meeting a woman in a professional environment, shake it the same way you would a man's - after all, you shouldn't be trying to break ANYONE's knuckles. If it's a social situation, be sure to extend your hand first since a lot of women don't automatically do it, then just be firm but gentle. But, no matter what, don't just grab the fingers. There's no good way for the finger-owner to participate, and for some weird reason, I always have a tremendous urge to wipe my hand on my pants after someone does that to me!

She's the lady, so you let her make the first move. If she extends her hand--and only if she extends her hand--put yours out to receive it. Never the other way around. No matter the age difference. Grasp it pleasantly firmly; no bone-crushing, limp-wristing or heaven forbid! arm-pumping. Look her straight in the eye and when introduced say only, "How do you do." It's not a question. She will do exactly the same.
As far as kissing, only if she is waaaay older than your mother, and only if she's European. It also helps if she's dead, because women hate this.

In social settings, offer your hand first, then reciprocate whatever kind of shake she gives you. In business settings, shake the same as you would a man, but if you have an extremely strong shake normally, tone it down just a bit.

Dry hand, shake firmly but not bone crushing and not as long as with a man.
Unless you are in a play about the Knights of the Round Table do not kiss a woman's hand, she will think you are a milksop.

I agree with viking. a normal handshake, with another hand over the top is a gentlemanly thing to do, but not over the top. i would be really cautious about giving some wimpy handshake. personally, it makes me think the guy is a wimpy little snake, OR that he's some macho jerk who thinks i can't handle a normal handshake. so....a nice firm shake, but placing your other hand on top (briefly) can be a bit more personally and gentlemanly..without insulting the lady.

I would rather a firm handshake from a women or a man. I know men shake each others hands rather hard, so you could ease up a little bit, but not too much.

The exact same way you shake anyone's hand. You shouldn't be squeezing too tightly, but it should be firm so you seem confident. A limp handshake can make you seem very unsure of yourself.

You never shake a lady's hand! She gives you her hand with a limp wrist and prays to God that it comes back with little to no saliva on it. Women don't shake hands, they do the "limp fish" handshake.
