You need to take control of the situation and stick to it, most important part of dealing w/ a child/teen is that u r CONSISTENT DO NOT LET UP. My son was diagnosed w/ ADHD, ODD, EDD AND CONDUCT DISORDER. I'm here to tell you, it's a lot of work and it isn't easy but u have to be in control of him and not the other way around. I wish you luck ;) Remember, CONSISTENCY is the key.

Question, who diagnosed him? How long ago was he diagnosed? If he was tested and diagnosed through the school system, Department of Education or Department of Health for the DOE, if at all possible, please have him re-evaluated by a independent Psychiatrist ( not Psychologist) who specializes in children and adolescents. There are other conditions that are associated with ODD, or can be misdiagnosed as ODD. Unfortunately, Mental Health is not an exact science, especially with children and teens. My son was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at 6, ODD and Attention Deficit Disorder at 8, both times by DOE sponsored evaluations. At age 12, a private evaluation was made, and we have been treating him for Bipolar Disorder ever since with success. (He will be 18 in April) What ever happens, try to find a therapist that works with both of you, him on control, and behavior modification techniques for you.

i think my daughter has ODD but the paediatrician i took her to told me i was a bad mother and there is nothing wrong with my daughter who sat in the corner of his office for 5min in total and he never spoke to her
she is 12 and is probably the most horriblest child i have ever met
my other two children are certainly not like her
i don't think many doctors know much about it so they ignore these situations and i don't know what to do with her
father doesn't help at all and in fact seems to encourage behaviour by his reactions if any to her shocking behaviour i think he has mental issues also but we won't go there as that's a 20000 page book on that subject.
i have also thought that bub may be bi polar certainly as manipulative as a person can be but only to a select group of us
i have trouble on a daily basis and we are going to grade 7 meet the teacher night tonight so yet again i steel myself for a traumatic evening in public with my beautiful openly in public defiant
daughter who will do anything to get her own way every time

I also had a daughter that was diagnosed with ODD. I then took her to another doctor and she was talked to and asked many questions and then found out that it was not ODD after all she was Bipolar. Since then she was put on medicine and she has done a 360 degree turn around. I would suggest you get a second opinion. Good Luck.

I am 13 nd OCD but I am the exact opposite. I strive for perfection. I try to get all A's. I keep my room perfect. I take 4 showers a day. My mom has a hard time dealing with me too.

Stop feeding him. If he wants to eat, he'll just have to grow up and either get a job or start treating you with respect.

That is, if you respect yourself. Kids can sense when their parents do not respect themselves, and they will do everything they can to show their disappointment.
