My husband and I are expecting our first baby and are ready to burst with excitement. I am preparing birth announcements (we have only a few weeks to go) and I am not sure who to send announcements to...close family...all family...just family far away that you won't see...everyone who attending the shower...? Help!

Either way is okay. If you send the birth announcements, then a Christmas card later it would be okay, or you could write a Christmas letter to include in the cards and mention the Birth of the baby, and include a small picture. Congratulations and Merry Christmas!

I always assume a birth announcement is sent to someone that is not wanted at the shower, but a gift is still expected from. So, anyone you do not care to see, but think or hope will send a gift, send one to them.

Its a celebration! CONGRATULATIONS in advance to you!!

Send the announcements to those that you would normally send Christmas cards to(if you send them out or Hanukkah cards)
Definitely to those invited to the shower, all family, all friends.

I like the announcements with a big picture of the baby, it makes it extra special.

Birth announcements can be sent to anyone whom you believe would be genuinely interested that you've had a baby.

For example, a former teacher of yours might be happy to know the news. However, the mother of your gardener probably could not care less.

Close friends and all of your family. Even though some won't be able to see you on the day you give birth, I bet they still care. Good luck, god bless, and congrats!

my friend just had a baby and she sent out announcements to far away friends and family and she also started a myspace page for all of us to take a look at her new baby.

To your parents and any other direct relatives (Grandmas & Grandpas,Aunts & Uncles) and then to whom ever you wish to let know that you had a baby! If someone gave you a babyshower it would be polite to send one to them also and to anyone who attended the shower(but not necessary).

invitations for people attending the shower, birth announcements for those who weren't invited or couldn't make it!
