They are the unit designations for the unit the person is in. For example, here was my address at my last duty station:

HQ BN 1MARDIV
Comm Co ANGF Plt.
Camp Pendleton, CA

HQ BN - Headquarters Battalion
1MARDDIV - 1st Marine Division
Comm Co. - Communications Company
ANGF Plt. - Air & Naval GunFire Platoon

So, whatever you are writing is not really a code. The military just abbreviates everything.

Three Military "States":

AA, which stands for Armed Forces (the) Americas
AE, which stands for Armed Forces Europe
AP, which stands for Armed Forces Pacific

Two "City" equivalents:

APO, which stands for Army Post Office
FPO, which stands for Fleet Post Office

it gives their division/battalion/or unit in which they belong to.
