My fav is Pinot Noir. Yummmm Love the winey, barnyard, dirty feet flavours. WOW that sounds disgusting even to me.

I agree with you on Pinot Noir, but I am developing a taste for Shiraz lately. Talk about winey dirty feet!
Merlot is SO last year. Ick. The problem with a wine becoming popular is too many vineyards producing too much of it, and when that happens there is too much mediocre wine out there.

I have a lot of Pinot in my cellar, but I also have cabs, french wines, and big italian wines. I don't discrimminate against any red grape (except maybe a cheap merlot).

My nightly drinking wines have been shirazes lately, just because such good ones can be had for under $20.

When I'm out for dinner, I tend to lean towards a Barolo, Chianti, or Barbarecso.

When I cook good meals at home, we'll do either a nice CA Cab or a Oregon Pinot.

In order of my fave to least fave:

Zinfandel (especially wild horse in paso robles)
Sangiovese (especially luna & silverado in napa)
Malbec (el felino from argentina)
Pinot Noir
Cab
Shiraz
Merlot

My absolute fave is Zinfandel. Anything from the Central Coast of California will do just fine. I also drink a lot of blends of different reds. I think that they are more interesting. Current new fave is Malbec from Argentina.

Just so you know I read an article recently that you might find interesting about Merlot. Did you know that it is the top selling red wine in the country....still....even after the whole sideways debacle. It outsold Pinot Noir by 5 times. Go figure.

Zinfandel, with Sirah and Pinot Noir close behind.

Unless it's a Rioja, I won't even speak to it, haha. I'm a huge fan of Spanish varietals for my reds, although I've been known to drink Cabernet if nothing else can be had.

I'm doing Shiraz lately. Yellow Tail (Australian) has a cheapy I enjoy. I hear it comes to the US in big plastic bladders and is bottled here. How gross is that?
(heheheheheheeheheh)

My fave these days is Malbec. So many great choices from Argentina and at great prices! Matches lots of foods and good on its own, too.

pinot noir, shiraz, and bordeux(sp?) are my favorites.

merlot is so gross, the only thing its good for is cooking, and then only when your desperate.
