can i use the thunderbird email for my regular email?

Yes... Thunderbird functions like any other POP/IMAP/SMTP based email client. As long as you know your pop/smtp server info you are good to go.

you can use it for Gmail I am not sure about yahoo! sometimes you need premium service to use pop3
