holding signs that belittle a man who is dead and cannot defend himself, mock things that are sacred to me, and say nasty things about a book that I consider to be scripture. Is this supposed to make me want to be a Protestant? If I were a Protestant I would be ashamed of them.

Hmm, I've been to that pageant, if it's the one by the Mesa temple, but I went to the Spanish one. Did not see any protesters of any kind that I can remember. Maybe that says a lot for Spanish speakers - that they wouldn't criticize the Easter story wherever it's put on. Or maybe it means that the protesters only knew English and stayed away on the Spanish night.

Wow that's sad. Anyone who is honoring the ressurection of Jesus Christ would not out belittling another religion that is doing so too. Why can't people put their differences aside and come together for this sort of celebration. Where I'm from every Easter and Christmas the local church choirs get together for a combined concert and sing praise to the Lord. All different Christian religions, including Mormons, attend and it's beautiful.

There seems to be a lot of religious intolerance on this planet right now. It probably has to do with the fact human beings are having a difficult time living happily in this day and age. Most people are seeking some sort of comfort in their spirituality/belief system.

Having been raised LDS myself, I also found it so very difficult to understand why people would attack me and my belief system. However, when I started to realize just how different my religious beliefs were from "mainstream" society, it started to make sense.

If my belief system brings a sense of security to me, and your belief system brings a sense of security to you, yet our respective religious leaders tell us our faith is "correct", and that we should try to convince people of their "sins" or "errors in judgement", a whole bunch of chaos ensues. It's akin to being from the United States and hating the Soviet Union in the 20th Century. (The people living in the Soviet Union are spiritual human beings as well!)

Saying you are ashamed of people who act in a manner contrary to how you believe they should act can appear to be very arrogant in nature. How about accepting how other people are, and find solace in your faith? If it works for you, it works for you. It doesn't mean it'll work for someone else. But try not to put a chip on your shoulder and look down upon others. You actually set yourself up for even more negative "feedback".

Take care and enjoy your Easter Pageant!

It is sad to see other religions persecuting people for their belief in a mean-spirited way.
I guess the good that can come from it is that you can decide that you will never make anyone feel the way those hecklers make you feel. The world will be a better place because you have made other people realize that they are all children of God, no matter what they personally believe to be true. And you will treat them with respect, even when they don't deserve your respect.

I went to the Manti (UT) Pageant last summer and there were lots there protesting also. I was there with my Young Women group, we were sitting inside the grouds and a guy with a loud sign and even louder voice came over to shout at us and tell us we were going to hell. We started singing "I Love to see the temple" and other primary songs and hymns...he left and it brought the spirit to those around us by singing those wonderful songs.
People will always fight against the church because it is true and Satan knows it and he is the one causing all the hate.

No kidding... you are totally right. My theory (although I don't know this because I don't know enough about other religions) is that they don't really have anything good in their churches that we (LDS) don't have, since we are the only completely true church... so they attempt to bring down our beliefs so that we will join with their religion with much less information that they think we are "forced" to believe. I do know that the LDS church is the only complete and correct church, so they won't have anything good we don't.

Just my two cents.

I wanted to respond long after people were done answering this question to tell you about my friend - who used to be one of those screaming picketers, who is now a fabulous ward missionary with her husband.

You see, that behavior is exactly what made her want to "befriend" LDS people so she could convert them, but they put her in the path of the spirit enough, that after a year or two instead of questioning her friends she started sincerely question Heavenly Father...and well, you know where that can go.

While that behavior is rude, and completely uncalled for, I can't help but think my friend being who she is today is worth all of that.

As they say: the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Don't worry, I hold strong to the personal belief that the toilets in the Celestial Kingdom flush into both the terrestrial and telestial kingdom, which is probably where most of the persecutors will be. This gives me strength to move on everyday.

Some churches promote themselves by informing you of what they believe and how those teachings/beliefs can help you in your temporal and eternal life. Other churches will promote themselves by tearing down other churches and telling you how their teachings will negatively affect your temporal life and eternal life. So therefore, by default, you choose them because they have destroyed all others. Kind of like a politician that tells you to vote for him because his opponents are liars and cheats. He tells you nothing about himself, but lets you know that he is best choice because all others are bad. The LDS is one of those churches that will not speak ill of other faiths, but simply inform you about how their teachings can benefit you in this life, and in the next.

I've only seen this type of display once before when I attended a Jehovah's witness convention with a friend. I do not understand the point of it.
