I think you're right, actually!
I've been driving for 25 years and have owned 15 american vehicles, 12 of which were Ford.
I never had a problem with any of them.
My mom has a Toyota Camry 2003 and it feels kind of generic to me!

Quality is an issue. The look of a vehicle says nothing about the quality of the car. Currently, I drive an 03 Subaru WRX. Not because it's foreign but because I've driven/owned both domestic and foreign cars. The imports were typically better built and lasted longer than the domestics. When it comes to cars, I'm strictly import now because of all the problems I've had with Ford and GM. Trucks are a different story, I'll always buy American.

For a number of reasons.
1. Quality. Many domestic vehicles lack the longevity that buying a foreign vehicle can give you. If you are going to spend $30K, do you want to buy something that is going to start needing serious mechanical maintenance in 5 years? Or would you rather purchase a vehicle that isn't going to need anything but oil changes for the next decade?
2. Style. Domestic manufacturers have been hurting in the style market for decades. Many foreign manufacturers are designing vehicles that target exactly what we are looking for in a vehicle. Look at Toyota for instance. The scion line is targeted directly at younger buyers with different customization packages available from the dealer. All of them are MP3 compatible and they offer all of this much cheaper than you could get something made by a domestic manufacturer. If you're not a younger buyer, you probably know EXACTLY what you want your vehicle to be capable of. No domestic manufacturer offers something like Toyota's FJ Cruiser. It's completely different from anything else on the market and targeted directly to people who want offroad capability in an SUV format.
Domestic design studios seem to always bastardize some competitors vehicle. Chrysler came out with the PT Cruiser, a couple years later GM came out with the HHR - why buy a copy-cat vehicle? Look at GM's new Silverado - looks almost identical to the top-selling Super Duty from Ford.
For the price, you get a LOT more vehicle by buying foreign and chances are it will outlast any domestic make.
Also, the argument that it's better for the workers and economy is false. Many foreign manufacturers are now producing vehicles right here in the US with US workers on American soil.
The lines between foreign and domestic are beginning to blur and foreign manufacturers are giving consumers what we want. Mark my words - if foreign manufacturers start importing some of the diesel engines they use oversees, there will be an even bigger shift to foreign automakers.
The big 3 have ignored the wants of consumers long enough that soon - they won't have any consumers to worry about.

I have to agree that some of the American cars are poor right now. I am in the market for a new car and the warrantees and the safety features on some of the foreign cars are better. For instance, a Toyota Camry has 7 airbags and a Dodge Stratus has two.
Plus, a lot of the American cars may be put together in the states, but most of their parts are from other countries. Ford Escorts were made in Canada. There are foreign cars made in the USA.
I think now it's more of a preference of what you really want in a car than where it is made.

I think buying foreign cars isnt all that bad because many foreign car makers have invested billions of dollars in here in the United States and many of the foreign cars are being built in the US, by the workers living in the United States. It also saves the car companies from shipping costs if they just build the car here. (if they build it in Japan for example, they have to pay more money for the car to be shipped over here)
Many parts of a Ford, GM, Chrysler car are built in another country. On the contrary, many parts of a foreign car, and most of the time, the entire car itself, is built here in the United States.
Also, if a person buys a foreign car from a LOCAL dealer, he or she is helping the local economy because the dealer has to pay its employees and the employees are local people. So, buying foreign cars does help the US economy and it gives the foreign car makers a reason to build more factories in our country and hire more local people.

Uh, because of fact it extremely is how many unskilled JOBS there are. Bringing in 3 hundred million unskilled worker's would not make greater unskilled jobs. There are in spite of the undeniable fact that many roles here that don't pay lots (so little and without reward, that no citizen will do them decrease than those circumstances). So the folk who supply those jobs avert the government from cracking down on immigration regulation enforcement. it extremely is stupid to have this occasion, and could make greater experience to enable the folk doing those jobs be here legally. If we don't, and we actually do crack down on immigration regulation, then no person here would be waiting to handle to pay for to consume -- what with a head of lettuce costing $20, and fowl at $50/lb and all. no person has reported that training is a foul theory; we want nicely-knowledgeable human beings (for many of reasons, consisting of a want for uniqueness expertise, collectively with surgeons). Having no longer something yet low-potential jobs isn't solid for an financial gadget. in case you spent any time certainly questioning approximately issues rationally, it does no longer be any such secret to you. it extremely is solid to have people who can layout laptop application here; it is likewise solid to have food here. Is that too no longer undemanding so you might appreciate? (curiously so, yet i could no longer get as much as attempting.)

There are PLENTY of foreign cars that are crappier than American cars. If you are referring to foreign cars from Japan, well, personally, I want to buy a quality automobile that will have a great resale value after 100,000 miles, and Japanese cars offer that. Most American cars are shot at that point.
NOTE: I said "MOST" not "ALL"

its not about what looks nice so much as what is safe. I buy foreign cars because American cars really have dismal safety ratings in comparison.
