I have I-explorer 8 (the one w/tabs on the toolbar) and it frequently and randomly says "We are sorry for the inconvienence, but internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I am getting really annoyed by it and I'm considering switching to firefox but I dont know how good it is. Anyone Have it?

I prefer Firefox (better add-ons)

To block ads:
For Firefox: Install Adblock plus http://adblockplus.org/en/installation
For internet explorer: Install IE7Pro
http://www.ie7pro.com/

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, but internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"

This is often caused by a bad add-on in internet explorer. To fix::

Run Internet Explorer with no add-ons installed
Start - All Programs -Accessories -Systems Tools - Click on “Run Internet Explorer (no add-ons)” If IE runs ok you have one or more bad add-ons.

In IE tools - Programs - Click on “Manage Add-ons”. Disable all add-ons then restart. Enable one add-on and restart. If ok enable another ad-on. Repeat until you find the add-on(s) that are causing the problem.

If this does not work you may need to reinstall IE7, uninstall IE7 with Ad/Remove programs. This will take you back to IE6.
Run Windows Live OneCare “Full Service Scan” http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
Reboot.
Reinstall IE7

I spoke with a computer tech who came to my house and he said that Firefox is better then IE because IE is more open and vulnerable than Firefox. I have it and I have never gotten errors in it, but yes I have received multiple errors in IE

Firefox is a very good alternative to IE. You will find it secure and robust. I have used it for roughly two years now and it is my browser of choice. You can also look at the Opera browser if you are interested.
