Most Doctors will not let you wear anything like that at all during surgery. They do not want to be responsible if it ends up inside your body.

Retainers are normally made of plastic or acrylic. No metal is suggested but plastic and acrylic cause no magnetic or metallic reactions of course. Use a retainer that is to the sides of the piercing and not way beyond so that it doesn't get caught.

Retainers are generally made of acrylic, which is non-reactive and certainly non-magnetic. I would speak to your Dr. ahead of time and explain that you are weating an acrylic retainer. People wear rings or necklaces of special import into surgery all the time - I wore my wedding ring (titanium and gold) into surgery last year, no problem.

Be up front, and best wishes, mate.

It all depends on what kind of surgery you're having. If you're having foot surgery or oral surgery, then it won't matter. even if you're having an operation where they will be cutting your chest, they won't be cutting off your nipple. whatever body jewelry you have in now should be fine. make sure you let the doctors know before surgery that you have one there.

oh, and if it is metal, it will show up in x-rays.

ask them if they recommend putting a small bandaid over it to prevent them hitting it or disturbing it during surgery.

Generally plastic or quartz retainers are fine, but depending on the doctor and type of surgery, I would speak with the doctor beforehand anyway.
