I usually order a liver ultrasound if I have ordered bloodwork and the liver enzymes have come back elevated. There are alot of other reasons for ordering this test. I would need more information to help you further.

I just had that done because my liver function numbers in a blood test were off a bit. Mine showed some fat adheasions, no big deal at this time but shows me to watch my cholesterol and exersise. I hope yours is minor too. The good thing about livers is they can regenerate themselves. If you cut it in half, it will grow back! Try Mayoclinic.com for information.

Well ultra sound is used to diagnose certain problems. Didn't your doctor tell you why? I had one a few years ago to check to see if my liver was normal size, then after that had a biopsy to diagnose a liver disease.

An ultra sound scan is used to detect masses, fluid, gasses in the internal organs or in the abdomen.
It can also be used to detect if the liver or any internal organs are enlarged.
