I can't remember, but my 2 daughters both wrote early (well before school), stories too. I don't really think this is an intelligence thing. It's to do with motivation. Children learn 3 categories of fact:
1. what they want to learn
2. what we need them to learn (eg don't run out into the road)
3. what we want them to learn

If she wants to write her name she will. Children learn the most complicated stuff provided they are in the first category and can take ages learning stuff in the third group. Don't worry about cramming, just make sure anything you teach them is in group 1 or 2 (and that MAY just include reading). Just leave school to do all the group 3 stuff.

Think my son was just 4 (he has a six letter name).

My daughter was over 3 and a half I think, but about that. She only has a four letter name though.

I too think my daughter is very clever of course!

She could count to 10 before she was 2 aswell! Unfortunately she didn't progress at that rate. She didn't get to 20 until she was almost 4 I think! (She still makes mistakes with the teens!)

My daughters name is abbie and she could write that easily and also copy other words you wrote about 3 to 3 and half, she is now 6 and can read and write perfectly.

My 3 year old cant write her name but it is hayleigh, but she can do a H , my eldest seemed better at this sort of stuff, but thats the things she likes to do, my youngest prefers playing.

Doesn't it feel great!? My daughter could write and recognise her name by the time she started playgroup at two and a half! I think she's very intelligent, but don't we all?
My son is that age now and has no interest in such things. He'd much rather run around and be a boy!! I'm sure he'll come into his own soon enough!
Hey, as long as they're happy and healthy, am I right?

sounds about right, some learn early, some learn later. My nephew was just 2 1/2 years when he wrote his own name, hes 4 now and I chat on MSN with him all the time, and he does the typing, he of course asks his mom for help in spelling but he can read what I write, as long as I keep it simple. It all depends on how much time is spent with a child, cause that is how they learn, with lots of help from mom and dad.

Mine was 42. Only kidding. I think my son wrote his name legibly for the first time around the age of 4 and a bit. But he was writing clear letters from the age of 3 but they spelled nothing.

I guess earlier than many toddlers but, if I may, do not take it as a sign of genius in itself. Where did she pick it up from, did someone teach her? If so, beware of cramming too much into her little head, she is at an age where playing is far more useful than learning things that she only needs to learn later. Parents love to think that their kid is special in some way (I know from my own experience!) but the most important is to let the child learn. Cheers

My oldest son was 3 when he first wrote his name......on his bedroom door LOL. I couldn't punish him for it at the time because I was so proud of him for writing his name!! LOL He just helped me clean it off. My youngest son is 3 1/2 and is just starting to write his name. I think it all depends on the child to a certain extent. I think it's great though that she can already write her name!!! Congrats to you and her!
