Promise on a stack of Bibles (Korans,Torahs etc.)that you will not be texting while driving,or walking down a busy street into traffic, while in class or church,or anywhere else where is would be dangerous, disruptive or disrespectful.

The first thing you need to do is show them that you can be responsible with the plan that you already having. Texting cost money and it may be cheaper to text, but when you use it a lot then it ends up being more expensive in the long run. It would be nice to do what all the other kids are doing but your parents may not be able to afford it, be glad that you have a phone at all, not every kid has one.

I went through this awhile back ago. Find your plan (T-Mobile, etc), so you can find what the price is for unlimited texting. After you know the price, present them with ways texting can be useful. For one, it is a way to keep in touch with them at times you are unable to talk. Texting has been very useful in a lot of the recent school shootings as kids were able to text their parents and say that they are safe. While these are unusual circumstances, and they would probably be willing to front the 5 cents or so for that single text, explain to them WHY it is important to you to get text messaging.
Good luck!

Tell you what honey, why don't you get a job and pay for it yourself! Selfish, spoiled kid!! You don't convince your parents of anything! You respect them and do as you are told until you are old enough to get out and pay for all your little toys all by yourself! In the meantime, be thankful for what you have!

So do they supply you with this phone? If that's the case...it costs money for texting. Ask them if you could exchange chores for texts. Show them that you are willing to work for what you want!

Get a job and pay for it yourself ---and if you go over your limit and the bill is too much, you lose the phone.
