I work in a restaurant and believe I have ingested it via cleaning the bathrooms with minimal protection and then eating shortly afterwards. I am really sick, and cold medicine isn't helping. I have physical chills, fever, body aches, nausea, extreme loss of appetite.

Of course it can make you sick. The bacteria can give you strep throat, and you can also get hepatitis.

But it might not be fecal matter either. There are all kinds of germs on the various surfaces of a bathroom and most likely whatever you've got came from that.

After doing something like that, I'd wash my arms up to my elbows before eating, and that's if I couldn't shower. Hopefully whatever you have will be gone soon, and you'll know next time.

So basically you were playing around with the poop. That's what it sounds like to me. Were you playing with the poop? Dude, even cleaning bathrooms, they would at least have scrub brushes or something so you wouldn't have to put your hand down in the toilet and being a restaurant, I'm pretty sure they supply all of you with lots of anti-bacterial hand soap. So what this says to me is that you don't care about being sanitary and obviously have no problem with sticking your hands straight into a toilet and wiping the poop off the bottom with your fingers and then go right to snacking or making food.

By the way, What restaurant do you work for?

As a healthcare provider, I recommend you see a healthcare provider. Ingestion of E. Coli can be extrememly serious, although your symptoms don't exactly fit the clinical picture of such an illness. Nevertheless, you ARE sick. Could be just the flu...or many other things. So go see.

Yes it can make you very very sick. you now need to flush your system out which your body is now trying to do with your symptoms. Can you go see your Doc? You can help flush your system out by drinking lots of water. Go to your local GNC and they can tell you whats best to take over the counter.
