what does that mean? I know she wasn't trying to offend me, but is that a nice way to say I need to lose weight? I'm 5'6" and 127lbs

Why would you need to lose weight? You weigh 127 pounds, that's not heavy.
Shapely just means that you have nice curves, like an hourglass figure (hips and torso a bit bigger than waist). It's not an apple (bigger stomach, rounder) or a pear (smaller torso and bigger hips) shape. Think Beyonce or Scarlett Johannsen. If the woman had said 'Reubenesque', then I think I would have been offended.
And besides, if you got a compliment from a woman (and she wasn't being sarcastic), that pretty much means that she is jealous.

Shapely Figure

If it was a man who said this to you, then he would probably mean it as a completement. It would mean that he likes your figure.

But heterosexual women normally don't have any sexual attraction to each other. And such a statement coming from a woman is more likely to mean the way you've understood it.

But if you want to know whether you really need to loose weight or not, then I suggest that you ask the opinion of men who might be attracted to you and medical professionals who are qualified to judge what is good for you in terms of health.

Women often tend to overestimate how thin they need to be in order to be attractive. And when such women succeed in their dieting, then they often end up looking too thin for the likes of most men.

Shapely = Nice figure, thin, curves in all the right places, nice looking, If you only weigh 127 and think you need to loose weight then you might be overly self conscious!

No, I do not think it is a nice way of saying you need to loose weight. However, women with curves or an hour glass figure usely are called shapely.

No silly, it means you have a nice figure with curves. Would you rather be straight up and down like a man? Jeez, some people don't know how to take a compliment!

It's the same thing as comely which is a nice compliment. It could also mean you have nice curves.

Shapely normally would mean hourglass figure. Big upper, thin waist and larger hips. True or not true? Means looking in the mirror.

The person who called you "shapely" - It sounds to me like a compliment "of the highest order". -- NO! no need to lose weight - let me repeat this in writing - you are "shapely" - You have a great shape - all curves in the right places - Men would say "stacked"! - or they might say, "WOW"!

It sounds to me that you are worrying about something that you don't need to worry about. -- Consider yourself a "knockout"! -- -- you are sooo lucky!
